  • Ipl 2022 Lsg Vs Dc Lucknow Rub Salt Over Delhis Wounds With A Six Runs Win

IPL 2022 | LSG vs DC | Lucknow rub salt over Delhi's wounds with a six runs win

Brilliant knocks from KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and outstanding bowling from Mohsin Khan helped the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) claim a 6-run-win in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede.

Needing 196 to win, the Delhi Capitals (DC) desperately needed a blazing start from their superstar duo of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw.

They didn't get that as Dushmantha Chameera and Mohsin Khan got rid of the duo in the first three overs, with DC's score reading 2/13.

However, it didn't matter as Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant launched a stunning assault on Krunal, Chameera and Holder in the next three to take the total to 66 at the end of the powerplay.

Krishnappa Gowtham provided a much-needed breakthrough on the first delivery of his spell in the 8th over when Marsh (37 off 20) edged one straight to the keeper.

LSG got lucky there as ultra edge showed that there was no spike when the ball got past the bat, but since Marsh didn't challenge the on-field call, it did not matter.

Pant continued to blaze away but kept losing partners at the other end. Finally, Ravi Bishnoi dealt another blow to DC as he knocked over Lalit Yadav with a wrong' un, reducing them to 4-86 in the 9th.

Pant got a reprieve in the 11th over when he threw his bat at a wide googly from Bishnoi, only to see Rahul drop a straightforward chance at extra-cover.

Powell took the attack to Gowtham in the next over as he smashed him for a couple of sixes and a four, but just as it looked that the duo were on the course of a significant partnership, Pant threw his wicket away as he got knocked over by Mohsin in an attempt to guide the ball on the leg-side.

Powell kept hitting lusty blows to keep DC in the hunt, but Mohsin effectively killed the run-chase in the 17th over when he dismissed Rovman and Shardul- both caught in the deep- within a space of 4 deliveries.

The left-arm seamer finished with figures of 4/16 in four overs, and by the time he delivered his final ball, it looked as if the game was as good as done for DC.

However, Axar and Kuldeep didn't go down without giving LSG a scare as they hammered 25 runs off the 18th and 19th over before the latter smashed a six off Stoinis on the first ball of the final over to make it enjoyable.

However, Stoinis held his nerve and closed the game out brilliantly by nailing the blockhole, leaving DC six runs short of the target.

Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants rode on yet another majestic knock from their skipper KL Rahul (77 off 51 deliveries) and a priceless half-century from Deepak Hooda (52 off 34 deliveries) to post 195 in 20 overs.

The Super Giants got off to a flying start with KL and De Kock playing some sublime strokes during the powerplay. The duo hammered 41 runs in the first four overs, and although KL did survive a dropped catch from Lalit Yadav in the 4th over, QDK wasn't as lucky.

Shardul Thakur dismissed the southpaw (23 off 13 deliveries) in the 5th over after slicing a slower delivery from the latter straight to Lalit at the backward point.

However, the dismissal didn't impact Rahul and Deepak Hooda, as the duo stitched 95 runs in the next 10.1 overs to put LSG in a commanding position.

Rahul brought up another 50 off just 35 deliveries while Hooda racked up the same in just 32.

At 1-134 after 14 overs, it looked like LSG were well on their way to post more than 200, but Thakur broke the stand in his comeback over when he yorked Hooda, who gave a simple return catch to him.

Rahul continued to play some awe-inspiring strokes, but the final flourish never came, with Marcus Stoinis striking at less than run-a-ball. Rahul was eventually dismissed for a 51-ball 77 by Shardul in the penultimate over.

Stoinis did get one off the middle of the bat in the final over, but it's fair to say that LSG would have wanted more from their finisher than the 16-ball 17 that he managed.

LSG scored 61 runs in their last six overs to finish at 195/3 in 20 overs.

Brief Score:

Lucknow Super Giants- 195/3 (20)

Virender Sehwag shares interesting anecdote from 2011 WC final, involving Sachin Tendulkar

Former India batter Virender Sehwag has shared an interesting anecdote from the 2011 ICC World Cup final against Sri Lanka in Wankhede, where he had a chat with his opening partner, Sachin Tendulkar and thought that it was a terrific wicket while fielding. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 274 runs, with Mahela Jayawardene scoring a century during the innings. Then, the legendary opening duo of Sachin and Sehwag came to the crease, but Lasith Malinga dismissed both early. "I'll tell you a story about the 2011 World Cup final. Sachin was standing at midwicket, and I was standing at deep square leg. As the sun was setting, we noticed a lot of shine on the wicket. So both of us looked at it, then looked at each other and signalled that it would be fun to bat on this wicket. But, unfortunately, neither of us scored runs," Sehwag said during a panel discussion by cricket experts on Cricbuzz while talking about Virat Kohli's lean patch. "So all the discussions that there's heat, the wicket is flat, you win the toss and choose to bat… if you are in that patch where you can't score runs, you won't score runs. It's as simple as that," Sehwag added. After losing two early wickets, Gautam Gambhir (97) and Virat Kohli (35) put on an exemplary 83-run partnership which steered India out of trouble. Indian skipper MS Dhoni promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh, scored an unbeaten 91 runs, and finished the innings with six, taking India to their second ODI World Cup title after 28 years. Further, Sehwag believes India can try impressive fast bowlers in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL), given the T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled later this year. He mentioned the names of three pacers who have made a significant impact in these games so far. "You are talking about the T20 World Cup, I would say he should get a chance in the next series against South Africa in June. You'll know how he bowls against an international team, and he'll get some experience too. You can give your main bowlers a break because there are T20s in England as well. Those who have performed in the IPL can be picked for the home series… Umran Malik, Arshdeep, and Avesh Khan can be tried," Sehwag concluded.
