IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans to recruit Rahmanullah Gurbaz as Jason Roy's replacement

Gujarat Titans are set to sign Rahmanullah Gurbaz as the replacement of Jason Roy who had earlier opted out of the IPL 2022. The Afghanistan sensation confirmed the development through his Instagram stories.

The dasher joins his Afghanistan teammates Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad at Gujarat Titans. Also, the likes of Mohammad Nabi and Fazalhaq Farooqi were bagged by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the mega-auctions of IPL 2022.

Earlier, England opener Jason Roy decided to pull out of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) citing bio-bubble fatigue.

"Hi everyone, especially the Gujarat Titans fans and squad. It's with a heavy heart I have decided to pull out of this year's tournament. I want to thank the management and captain Hardik for putting your faith in me and picking me in the auction. However, with everything going on in the world over the last 3 years it's added up and taken its toll on me," Roy said earlier.

"I feel it's only right I spend some quality time with my family. As well as spending time working on myself and my game over the next couple of months leading into a very busy year," he added.

At the Gujarat Titans camp, Gurbaz would also join wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade and Wriddhiman Saha. However, according to reports from Cricbuzz, the decision to onboard Gurbaz came in the wake of the currently ongoing issue with Saha.

Moreover, Wade is expected to join the squad only after April 6. Gurbaz was left unsold at the auctions with a base price of INR 50 lakhs. That said, there hasn’t been any official confirmation from the Ahmedabad based franchise yet.
