An epic spell of bowling by Moeen Ali and belligerent knock from Devon Conway has spearheaded defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a commanding 91-run win over the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday night.


The game turned out to be a one-sided affair in the end, but that wasn't the case when the likes of David Warner, Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh were wielding their bat in the first six overs.


Chasing 209, the Capitals got off to a blistering start as cameos from Warner (19 off 12) and Marsh (25 off 20) guided them to 59/2. Mahesh Theekshana dismissed Warner, but Pant came out all guns blazing, hammering four fours, including three in a row of the former, to race his way to 19 off 7.


However, the game changed dramatically after Moeen Ali came into the attack in the 8th over.


Ali took out Marsh (holed out at long-on) and Pant (chopped on) within his first 12 deliveries to reduce DC to 75/4.


Unfortunately for DC, that was just the start of a slide as Ali chipped in with the wicket of Ripal Patel while Mukesh Choudhary got rid of Rovman Powell and Axar Patel in quick succession to leave them gasping for breath at 85/7.


Moeen Ali finished with barely believable figures of 3/13 in 4 overs.


Kuldeep managed a painstaking 17-ball 5 before perishing to Simarjeet. Shardul delayed the inevitable by wielding his willow in the end before Dwayne Bravo hammered the final nail in the coffin. 


Ruthless Conway & Dhoni's finishing touches propelled CSK to 208


Earlier, the Chennai Super Kings rode on yet another blistering opening partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad (41 off 33) and Devon Conway (87 off 49 deliveries) and a final flourish from skipper MS Dhoni (21* off 8 deliveries) to hammer yet another 200+ total this season.


Conway smashed his 3rd consecutive half-century in what was a stunning display of batsmanship from the southpaw, while his partner Ruturaj played the anchor role to great effect.


The duo added 110 runs in just 10.5 overs before Anrich Nortje sent Gaikwad packing.


Conway continued his onslaught against both pace and spin. He was particularly severe against Kuldeep Yadav, smashing the left-arm wrist-spinner for three fours and as many sixes.


Kuldeep endured a tough night with the ball as he returned with costly figures of 0/43 in three. 


Conway, meanwhile, found an able ally in Shivam Dube, who took his liking to Shardul Thakur and smoked him for a couple of fours and a six in the 16th over.


It's worth noting that Dube (32 off 19 deliveries) was dropped by Axar Patel after he mistimed an attempted slice on the offside.


Dube's knock was ended by Mitchell Marsh in the next over.


Dhoni came out to bat amid raucous reception, and he proceeded to set the stadium on fire by smashing Marsh for a four and a six.


Conway's brilliant knock of 87 was finally ended by Khaleel Ahmed, who again proved to be the pick of the bowlers for his team.


The left-arm seamer conceded just 28 runs in 4 overs besides claiming two wickets.


Uthappa and Moeen perished for the cause, but Dhoni ensured he stayed till the end to take CSK to 208.

India's champion Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara is making it extremely hard for the national selectors for the upcoming Test match against England with his rich vein of form for Sussex in the ongoing season of County Championship. Pujara, on Saturday, peeled off his 4th three-figure score in as many fixtures during the 2nd innings of the Division II match between Sussex and Middlesex. His 170 was on the back of three 100+ scores that Pujara has accumulated this season. The right-handed batsman started the season with an unbeaten 201 against Derbyshire and followed it up with 109 and 203 against Worcestershire and Durham, respectively. Pujara, a 95-Test veteran, was dropped from the red-ball set-up following a prolonged lean patch after India's series defeat in South Africa. While he made valuable contributions in Test victories in Australia and England, consistent failures in the 1st innings and lack of 100s since January 2019 hurt the Saurashtra cricketer. As a result, Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were finally shown the door by the selectors after the defeat in South Africa. Now that Pujara is back among runs, it will be interesting if the national selectors return to the Test veteran for the all-important final Test against England. Hanuma Vihari has waited for long enough and deserves to get an extended opportunity at the No.3 spot, but given the glut of runs Pujara is churning out, he is making it impossible for the selectors to overlook him. India, who are currently leading by 2-1 in the Pataudi Trophy, will play the decider at Edgbaston between July 01-05. The Test was supposed to take place at Old Trafford last September but was eventually postponed due to a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp.

'Will not be taking any questions regarding this matter': Paul Adams declines to testify against Mark Boucher

Former Proteas spinner Paul Adams has confirmed through a statement that he will not be a witness in the upcoming hearing of ex-teammate Mark Boucher. Adams said that things were misconstrued by a statement released on Sunday morning, and his appearance at Cricket South Africa's (CSA) Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) was not to criticise Boucher. The ex-South African leg-spinner made shocking allegations against Boucher at the SJN hearings in 2021, alleging racial discrimination from the now-Proteas coach in the late 1990s. The 45-year-old revealed in his own words that at the time, Boucher was among those who used to call him 'brown sh**' because of his skin colour. The cricketer-turned-head coach later apologised for his actions, but he was subsequently charged for blatant misconduct by CSA. As a result, the hearing was set for 16-20 May. Adams clarified that it wasn't his job or desire to find Boucher guilty or not and to be cross-examined. He is not eager to make any self-promotion out of the whole situation. "In conclusion, as has been a position from the start, I will not be taking any questions on to use with regards with this matter out of respect of the processes that South African cricket has embarked on and still need to conclude," Adams commented as reported by 'The South African'. Excerpts from Paul Adams' full statement In regards to attending SJN, Adams said, "the only time I confirmed a name was when the panel asked if I addressed Mark Boucher personally regarding the nickname and I replied that he was part of a broader group that sang the song and that I never addressed the matter within the team environment at the time. I was young and naïve at the time, trying to fit in and represent my country as best I could. I indicated, upon reflection and after discussing with my wife (my girlfriend at the time), that I felt humiliated by the song. Not at any stage did I mention any player's name who may have initiated the song."
