IPL 2022 | Devon Conway surpasses 4,000 T20 runs

New Zealand's Devon Conway surpassed 4,000 T20 runs during his outing against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Conway was four runs away from the milestone before the start at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

He reached the landmark by taking a single off Hardik Pandya's bowling. But, unable to get going, he was dismissed for 5, nicking the ball into the hands of keeper Wriddhiman Saha while attempting a flick against Mohammed Shami.

Stephen Fleming-coached side picked Conway for a modest price of INR 1 crore. He is the leading run-getter for CSK this edition, amassing 236 runs in six games. Conway took a break from IPL for his wedding, which took place in Johannesburg.

He scored three consecutive fifties for the franchise before getting out on a first-ball duck against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Interestingly, it was only the second time he was given out leg-before in his T20 career.

The dashing opener made his T20 debut way back in 2011, playing in the middle-order for the Dolphins in South Africa's domestic 20-over league.

In the last 11 years, the Johannesburg-born player has scored 31 fifties and two centuries at an average of 44.40.

Conway made his New Zealand debut against West Indies in 2020 and has since been their linchpin in the top order. The Kiwi-opener has scored 602 runs in 20 T20Is at an average of 50.16, with a top score of 99.
