IPL 2022 | Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead SRH against PBKS: Reports

In the latest development, the experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is likely to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last league match of the IPL 2022 season against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 22 at Wankhede Stadium.

After the team’s penultimate game against Mumbai Indians, captain Kane Williamson flew back home for the birth of his second child. Under his leadership, the team could secure only six victories in 13 league matches.

From a personal point of view, It was a disappointing season for the Kiwi batter, as he could garner only 216 runs in 13 appearances at an average of 19.64.

The other option for leadership in the team was Nicholas Pooran, who has been chosen as the new West Indies white-ball captain as well. But, the team management has trusted Kumar for this role, who has captained in six IPL matches and tasted success in two of them.

In his last outing against (MI), Kumar finished off with figures of 1/26.

With MI needing 19 off 12 balls, he bowled a wicket-maiden which helped the team to seal their sixth victory of the ongoing season. In 13 matches, he has 12 wickets at an economy of 7.20 in this season.

Interestingly, the 32-year-old also became the only bowler to deliver more than 1400 dot balls in the IPL history. In 145 IPL appearances, Kumar has 154 wickets at an economy of 7.29. SRH management will hope that Bhuvneshwar can end their season with a victory over Punjab.
