IPL 2022 | Ahmedabad & Kolkata to host playoffs with 100% crowd capacity

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the venues for the playoffs of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been awarded the hosting rights of Qualifier 02 and the final. The first qualifier and Eliminator 02 will take place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Earlier, there were speculation that the BCCI may keep the playoffs in Maharashtra and continue with restrictions on crowd capacity, considering the rise in Covid cases in the country.

But, the board has allowed 100% capacity for the knockout stages.

The Apex Council met on Saturday, post which it released a statement that read:

"The first #IPL2022 playoff and eliminator in Kolkata on May 24 and 26 followed by second playoff and final at Ahmedabad on May 27 and 29 respectively will be held to full capacity,"

The league stage of the 15th season will culminate at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 22.

After this, the top-4 teams will travel to Ahmedabad and Kolkata via a bubble-to-bubble transfer.

In the same meeting, the apex council also confirmed the venue and dates of the Women's T20 Challenge.

The three-team tournament will once again be played during the gap between the elimination of the league stage and the start of the playoffs.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow will play host to the tournament from May 24.
