IPL 2021: Virender Sehwag questions Sanju Samson's attitude on the field

Rajasthan Royals finally returned to winning ways against the Kolkata Knight Riders thrashing them by 6 wickets to win their second game of the tournament. Coming into the match on the back of three consecutive losses, Rajasthan had to turn their fortunes around and for that to happen their skipper Sanju Samson needed to lead from the front.

Despite playing brilliantly and carrying his bat, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels that there are still issues lingering which the franchise need to address as quickly as possible. He further added that it is important for the captain to be more proactive on the field. He feels that Samson is lacking positive body language and it seems that his teammates are not too happy with him being named the captain.

"Looking at his body language, his teammates don't appear too happy with him being the captain. But this is a fact that if a player remains in his own and suddenly, he is made the captain, it takes him time to talk to players, mix with them. So that I fell is proving to be difficult for Sanju Samson," Sehwag said about Samson on a video in Cricbuzz.

Despite the victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Sehwag feels that Samson can do little things, making a huge difference at the top level. He also explained fact that how it is very important to bring every player together and make them gel as a unit. Samson was named the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the tournament.

“When a bowler gets taken for runs, it is important to see how the captain responds. I have noticed this with Rishabh Pant that he goes and keeps his hands on the bowler's shoulders and goes 'It doesn't matter. You'll get hit for 40-50. But bowl according to your field'," added Sehwag.

"This helps the bowler retain his confidence in captain. Irrespective of what the result it, the captain should continue showing confidence of a bowler who is being taken for runs or even a batsman who isn't scoring runs,” Sehwag added.

Started 'hating cricket' after long bio-bubble in India: Dom Bess

England spinner Dom Bess has said that he had begun to “hate cricket” due to a prolonged stay in the bio-bubble during the Test series against India. The off-spinner didn’t really have a successful run during the series where he just managed to pick five wickets in the two matches that he played in the four-match series. The home side eventually won the series 3-1 to march into the final of the WTC. “After India I had a good break away from it, because I really did start hating cricket,” Bess was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. “It got too much at times, certainly in that bubble in India, there’s a lot of pressure going on and it was really important for me to come back and get away from it,” he added. Bess further said that staying in bio-bubble became all the more difficult because the things weren’t going in his favour. “It was nice to see them and get away from it, because in India, in the bubble, everything was about cricket. And it’s fine when you’re going well, but when things aren’t going well it is very tough,” he said. The England spinner also took some positives away from the series against India. He admitted that it was a big learning curve for him and he now had the understanding as to what are the areas that he needs to work on. “But I only see what I had in India as a great positive. It’s been a tough time really, but one hell of a learning curve for me,” Bess said.

It is a responsibility for us to play with smiles on our faces : Chris Morris

The second wave of COVID-19 has wreaked havoc in India and the whole of India is reeling under its effect. More than 3 lakh cases are being reported each day and thousands of people are losing their lives. The Indian Premier League has brought a few smiles for the Indians amidst the pandemic. Rajasthan Royals all-rounder feels that more than winning and losing it is important to entertain the fans in these catastrophic times. He further added that the worsening situation in India has been discussed several times in the dressing room. He added that it is very difficult to comprehend what is happening. "As a team, we have been talking about it quite a lot over the last couple of days. We have seen how badly this pandemic has taken over the specific parts, if not all of India," Morris was quoted as saying during the post-match press conference after Rajasthan thrashed KKR in the 18th match of the tournament. "It is quite difficult to comprehend what is happening. It is a responsibility for us to play with smiles on our faces because we have a reason to smile and that we are healthy and get to play cricket. We hopefully get to keep people happy on the other side of the screen. Whether we winning or losing, it is an opportunity to keep people smiling, if that gives people a reason to smile, then we are doing well as a sport," he added. Both Royals and the Knight Riders came into the back on the back of three consecutive losses. It was important for either team to get back to winning ways and in the end, it was Rajasthan who turned their fortunes around and won their second game of the tournament. Having lost the previous game to RCB by 10 wickets, it wasn’t an easy thing for RR to pounce back after the drubbing. "It's very easy to go down the dark route of thinking you are not good enough when you get beaten by 10 wickets but sometimes you need to tip your hat off to the opposition," said Morris.
