IPL 2021 | RCB vs DC Preview: A final dress rehearsal before Bangalore, Delhi take centre stage

The Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals have registered a place for themselves in the playoffs of this edition’s Indian Premier League 2021 and the two sides will now lock horns with each other in Dubai to play the final league game of the tournament.

Despite being a dead rubber, both the sides would be looking to gain momentum before heading into the playoffs. The Royal Challengers would seek a positive result as they are coming into this game after suffering a defeat in the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Chasing a target of 142 in 20 overs, RCB were restricted to 137/6 as the side witnessed a rare batting failure in the competition.

On the other side, although DC managed to win their last encounter against CSK, the Rishabh Pant-led side had to fight hard to snap a win during the course. While the bowling unit was spot on and restricted CSK to 136/5 in 20 overs, the batsmen worked hard but eventually chased down the target in the final over.

Talking about the last clash between the two teams in Ahmedabad, RCB etched a win in a nail-biting thriller by just one run after DC needed 6 off the final ball but Pant who was on strike could only manage to score a four through the off-side.

Riding on AB de Villiers unbeaten 75 off 42, RCB posted 171/5 in 20 overs and DC in reply, lost early wickets but Pant and Shimron Hetmyer made sure that they remain in the game till the last ball and the two batsmen succeeded in their plans but just fell short at the finishing line.

Nevertheless, DC are also in the playoffs and would seek to continue their form.

Match Details:

Pitch Report

The surface in Dubai has been beneficial for both the bowlers and the batsmen. Looking at the last couple of games, the bowlers did have something on offer but the way KL Rahul played against CSK was just brilliant.

The bowlers, especially spinners might have got some help in the initial phase of the game but the batsmen are likely to have a slight edge as this is an evening game. So, if you win the toss, elect to field first.

RCB’s stable unit

The Royal Challengers Bangalore might have lost their previous game but they have a pretty stable line-up. The openers Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli have been scoring runs while the middle order comprises the likes of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers who can turn the course of the game at any given stage.

In the bowling unit, the Bangalore team has in-form Harshal Patel who is the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2021 at the moment and Yuzvendra Chahal who has been in terrific touch in the second phase of the tournament.

Overall, the RCB are well equipped and just need to stick to the basics.

DC can ride on bowling too

The Delhi Capitals bowling unit produced a pretty good performance against a very dangerous CSK batting order and kept the batsmen on the back foot for the majority of the innings. The DC bowlers have the ability to bowl economical spells which can help the side take the advantage.

Team News

RCB: The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been trying different combinations as far as the number three batting position is concerned. Now, with the side already in the playoffs, the team management has a free hand to test another batsman for the position. So, the Bangalore team might make a few tweaks in the final XI.

DC: Delhi Capitals are in good form and would look to continue the way they have been playing. Still, they can rest a few players in order to keep them fresh for the playoffs.

Probable XI

RCB: Virat Kohli (c), Devdutt Padikkal, KS Bharat (wk), Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Daniel Christian, Shahbaz Ahmed, George Garton, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal

Investors ready with blank cheques for PCB if Pakistan beat India in T20 World Cup: Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ramiz Raja has encouraged his players to beat India as it can then turn into a profitable business for Pakistan Cricket, for big investors in the country are waiting with blank cheques if this Pakistan side is able to achieve what hasn’t been done in last 29 years. “One strong investor told me that a blank cheque is ready for the PCB if Pakistan beats India in the upcoming T20 World Cup,” Raja was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. Pakistan play India on October 24 at the Dubai International Stadium. Raja further went on to say that his primary objective as board chairman is to make Pakistan’s cricket economy self-sufficient. “PCB runs 50 per cent on the funding of ICC. 90 per cent of funding to ICC comes from India. I’m afraid that if India stopped funding ICC, then PCB might collapse because PCB gives zero per cent funding to ICC. I’m determined to make Pakistan cricket strong,” said the 59-year-old administrator, who also led Pakistan as a player. “If our cricket economy is strong, we won’t be used and then binned by teams like England and New Zealand,” he said. “Best cricket team and best cricket economy are two big challenges,” he added. Raja also enumerated the efforts that his team at PCB to make sure that players in the domestic circuit are getting good enough money to keep putting in their best efforts. “We have increased salaries of domestic cricketers by a hundred thousand rupees as we want to ensure that they earn at least four million rupees every year. PCB is also looking for sponsors in this regard,” he said.

IPL 2021 | CSK vs PBKS: What Experts said after KL Rahul's brilliant knock demolishes Chennai bowling

Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul went all guns blazing against Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Thursday after he remained unbeaten for 98 and took his team over the line while chasing 135 in 13 overs. The right-hander’s knock included seven fours and eight maximums during the course. The Punjab team once again got a steady start after Rahul and Mayank Agarwal scored 46 runs for the first wicket. But Agarwal’s departure for 12 off 12 after he was trapped in front of the stumps saw PBKS losing wickets at regular intervals. But the skipper Rahul was in some different mood as he just held the fort from the other end and struck the Super Kings all around the park. Shardul Thakur was once again the pick of the bowlers in Chennai camp after he returned with figures of 3/28 in three overs. Earlier, the Punjab Kings bowlers picked up early wickets and didn’t really let the batsmen, barring Faf du Plessis take an upper hand. Faf who opened the innings went on to notch up a half-century while wickets kept falling around him and CSK were reduced to 61/5 to eventually get restricted to 134/6 in 20 overs. Chris Jordan and Arshdeep Singh picked up a couple of wickets while Shami and Ravi Bishnoi had a scalp apiece to their names. CSK captain MS Dhoni said that the side has been a bit out of touch in the last two-three matches but that’s part and parcel of the game. “You have to cope (when it comes to mental or skill aspect) with that. We had played very good cricket to reach the playoff stages. We had a few bad games 2 out of 3 and one we felt like we could have a comeback and that's part and parcel d in leagues like these, you have to be at your best,” he said during the post-match presentation. Experts’ Opinion Commentator Harsha Bhogle lavished praise on KL Rahul for the kind of knock that he unleashed against CSK. “Watching KL Rahul bat today was like being at an art gallery and seeing one jaw dropping exhibit after another,” Harsha tweeted. Journalist Ayaz Memon also lauded KL Rahul for his match-winning innings. “Brilliant knock by KL Rahul, perhaps best in second phase. Not the first time CSK have got such a hammering. RR earlier chased down 189. After starting with streak of wins, CSK have hit a trough. PBKS superb tonight but unlikely to be in play-off. Have themselves to blame,” he wrote on Twitter. KL Rahul went past the 600-run mark in this year’s IPL edition. Mentioning about the same, former India opener Aakash Chopra was all in praise of Rahul. “Kamaal Rahul Ki Lajawaab Paari…aise hi khelte raho. 600+ runs in last four seasons. What. A. Player,” he tweeted. Former India bowler Irfan Pathan appreciated Rahul’s ‘charismatic’ knock. “KL Rahul batting in full flow is a charismatic site!,” he wrote on Twitter. The Chennai Super Kings have already made a place for themselves in the playoffs.

IPL 2021 | PBKS vs CSK: Twitter can’t have enough of KL Rahul's 98* off 42 to chase down 135 in 13 overs

It was madness at the Shiekh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi as KL Rahul put on a show which would be remembered for a long long time by both his fans and also the fans of Chennai Super Kings, who were basically bulldozed by the brilliance of one man. Rahul, the skipper of Punjab Kings, was on the field to chase down the target of 135 in only 12.3 overs to get their net run rate in the positive and to have a really unrealistic but mathematical possibility of them qualifying for the Playoffs. The Punjab bowling unit had restricted Chennai Super Kings to 134 thanks to some brilliant bowling by Chris Jordan, Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi. When Rahul came to bat, he was not the usual self who starts ver slowly, rather he was on the kill right from the word go. The Karnataka man reached his fifty in just 25 balls and didn’t rest even after that. In the next 17 balls, he made 48 runs to give his team a chance to win in the required 12.3 overs. However, due to his partner Aiden Markram getting out when nine runs were required of three balls and new man Moises Henriques taking the strike, ut became difficult to chase it down in the next two balls. But as soon as Rahul got the strike he hit a four and six to finish the game. In total, Rahul has now made 626 runs in 13 innings with an average of 62.60 and a strike rate of 138. He currently holds the Orange Cap, for most runs in IPL 2021 and is 80 runs ahead of second-placed Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has also played 14 innings and will surely get at least one more inning to chase down Rahul, who might not get any more innings in this season.
