IPL 2021 | Rajasthan Royals replace Liam Livingstone with South African quick Gerald Coetzee

The Rajasthan Royals have roped in a 20-year-old pacer from South Africa Gerald Coetzee as the replacement for Liam Livingstone, who left the ongoing edition of the IPL for suffering ‘bubble fatigue,’ reported ESPNcricinfo.

The signing of Coetzee is huge in terms of his experience on the big stage with the right armer having played only 20 professional games. He burst onto the scene in the ICC U-19 World Cup held last year where he earned praise for his attitude and raw pace.

The Rajasthan Royals have been depleted due to the availability of their marquee players like Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes. Liam Livingstone would have had his chances in the playing XI after Stokes’ departure but he withdrew from the league to return to England, a day before India was put on a red list.

The signing of Coetzee can also be seen as a potential move to find a like for like replacement for Jofra Archer who has been a force to reckon with his pace and accuracy for the Royals.

At the moment Royals are not having a great time in the 14th edition of the IPL and they are placed at the seventh position of the points table having won just two games out of the total six matches played so far in this season.

IPL 2021 | Dan Christian reveals details about Kohli; channel takes down podcast from YouTube

After The Grade Cricketer took down their video podcast featuring Dan Christian and Kyle Jamieson on the request of the former due to alleged breach of contract, The Royal Challengers Bangalore have clarified that Christian has not been issued an official warning. The footage of the interview that had Christian talking about Virat Kohli’s captaincy was deleted from YouTube in its entirety after Christian informed the hosts of the podcast that he was issued a warning. “RCB issued a gentle reminder regarding the team’s media protocol to all their players recently (following Christian’s interview). Like every season, that note had been shared with the players before IPL 2021 as well. No official warning was issued to Dan Christian or any other individual player,” an official from RCB clarified to indianexpress.com on Saturday. “The primary media commitments of all our players are to Indian publications, and then if time permits, overseas publications are slotted in after those,” the official added. The franchise had made the clarification after The Grade Cricketer put the allegation that Christian had asked them to take down the video on RCB’s warning. In their latest episode, released on Saturday, The Grade Cricketer co-host Sam Perry said he was informed by Christian that he had been issued a warning for breach of contract. “I was informed by Dan Christian that he has been issued a warning for breach of contract… Dan was asked to request us to take that interview down by RCB. On account for our respect for Dan, and his contract, we have taken it down,” he said.

SL vs BAN | 2nd Test: Taijul Islam gets out in a hilarious manner; watch video

Bangladesh player Taijul Islam was dismissed in a hilarious way during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Saturday. While negotiating a length ball from Suranga Lakmal, Islam went way into his crease and ended up disturbing the woodwork behind him after his shoe touched the stumps. He was undone for 9. The visiting team was bundled out for 251 in reply to Sri Lanka’s 493/7 (D) after debutant Jayawickrama scalped six wickets to return with figures of 6/92 in 32 overs. The spinners' wickets included the dismissals of Tamim Iqbal, Saif Hussain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan and Taskin Ahmed. Pacer Lakmal also picked up a couple of wickets during the course. Sri Lanka took a lead of 242 runs in the first innings but didn’t en-force a follow-on and were 17/2 when the stumps were called on Day 3. Earlier, Tamim had top-scored for Bangladesh with 92 while captain Mominul was dismissed for 49. Sri Lanka had rode on tons from Dimuth Karunaratne and Thirimane to post a mammoth total on the board. Jayawickrama later talked about his bowling and his favourite scalp. “My favourite wicket was Tamim's - I had really wanted that one. I had bowled a lot of balls over the wicket, but he wasn't playing that many attacking shots to me. So the captain and a few of the senior players asked me to make a change and try it, and I'm very happy it worked," said the left-arm bowler after the match.

SL vs BAN | 2nd Test | Day-3: Praveen Jayawickrama dazzles on debut as Lankans tame the Tigers

It was a dream day for debutant leg spinner Praveen Jayawickrama as he not only picked six wickets in his maiden innings in international cricket but also broke Upula Chandana’s 21-year-old record for best figures on Test debut for Sri Lanka. Jayawickrama, 22, picked the wickets of the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das, some of the established names in international cricket. He ended up with the figures of 6-92. The day started with Sri Lanka declaring their innings for 493-7 even as wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella remained unbeaten on 77 from 72 balls. Coming to bat, Bangladesh had a great start with the opening pair putting on 98 runs. Saif Hasan was the first international wicket of Jayawickrama. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the centurion from the last game was then removed for a duck by Ramesh Mendis. The experienced pair of Tamim and skipper Mominul then tried to steady the ship with a 52 runs stand. It was broken by Jayawickrama once again. Tamim missed his century by two runs. He now has three half-centuries in the series. Post this partnership, Mominul tried to build another one with another experienced man, wicket-keeper batsman and former skipper Rahim. But this 63 run partnership between the duo was the last considerable one as then the Bangladeshi batting order went down like a pack of cards. From 214-3, the team was all out at 251. The Sri Lankan team had a lead of 242 runs. Instead of enforcing the follow on, the Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne came out to bat once again. The Lankans were rattled by the Bangla spinners as well as they lost two quick wickets to end the day at 17-2 with Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews at the crease. Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam picked one each to end the day at the Pallekele International Stadium.
