IPL 2021: Franchise officials to visit UAE next month to finalise logistics

The Indian Premier League is slated to resume in the UAE in September-October and some of the franchises are planning to send their officials to finalise the logistics after July 6.

"We are looking at heading to the UAE post-July 6 once we get the go-ahead from the BCCI and the government so that we can seal the logistical deals. Unlike last year, bulk bookings won't be as easy this year as you will have people travelling into the country and that makes the work around bio-bubbles all the more critical," the official of one of the franchises explained.

Another official said that the franchise had sought permission from the BCCI for the same.

"We sent in a request to the BCCI to travel, but we have been asked to wait for the approval. While we had a good stay last time, we are looking at ways to making things even better this time around and that is the reason why we want to be present there while dealing with the hotel management," the official said.

The IPL was suspended on May 4 after there was a rise in COVID-19 cases within the franchise league.

Players like Wriddhiman Saha, Amit Mishra, Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrior, CSK bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and batting coach Mike Hussey had tested positive for the disease.

The BCCI had earlier announced that the IPL would resume in the UAE but the schedule for the cash-rich league is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the U 19 Men’s World Cup Division 2 Qualifier which includes Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Botswana and Tanzania has been called out due to strict COVID-19 restrictions. Will reassess & bring in right people who have right mindset to perform: Virat Kohli

India were stunned by New Zealand in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship after the Virat Kohli-led side suffered a defeat on the reserve day of the match in Southampton on Wednesday, Chasing 139, the Blackcaps went over the line by 8 wickets in the last session of play. Captain Kohli has expressed disappointment and said that the team management would look to “bring in right people who have right mindset to perform”. “We will continue to reassess and continue to have conversations around what are the things required to strengthen our side and not follow or fall prey to certain patterns,” Kohli said at the post match virtual press conference. “You have to reassess and replan and understand what dynamics work for the team and how we can be fearless. Bring in right people who have right mindset to perform,” the skipper added. Kohli further talked about the alterations required and how evolving with the game is necessary. “I think evolving with the game and improving yourself with the game is very important and when you have been a top side for few years in a row, you don’t want to suddenly drop your standards,” he said. India were bundled out for 217 in the first innings while New Zealand scored 249 taking an important first innings lead of 32 runs. The Kiwis then rattled the Indian batting line up in the second innings to bowl them out for 170 and later chased down the target pretty easily. Williamson scored an unbeaten half-century while Ross Taylor notched up 42* during the course.
