IPL 2020| RCB vs KKR: Hits and Flops as an AB de Villiers special seals the deal for Virat Kohli’s men

Coming on the back of a comprehensive win over the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore took Kolkata Knight Riders to the cleaners as they defeated them by a huge margin of 82 runs. While RCB’s innings was more or less all about the AB de Villiers show, Kolkata could drag themselves to only 112 after being outfoxed by the spin duo of Washington Sunder and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Choosing to bat first on a relatively slower track compared to previous Sharjah wickets, Virat Kohli and his men had a cautious start until a certain de Villiers entered the party. It was de Villiers with the bat and the spinners with the bowl that stood out for the RCB in their win against the Knight Riders.

For the Kolkata team though, there was just no single person who could be called as not guilty in an effort that looked much like a waste of energy as the match ended in a classic one-sided affair. To pick two it would be the new entrant Tom Banton and the old fox Andre Russell, who would be called the culprits of the desert for KKR.

All these players and their contribution (or the lack of it) in the game forms the part of the Hits and Flops segment of the match.

Hits

#1 AB de Villiers

When de Villiers entered the ground with RCB at 94/2 in the 13th over and even after him being there for more than 10 deliveries and captain Kohli at the other end, the innings wasn’t actually moving one bit as the team slumbered to 112/3 in 15 overs. But as Kamlesh Nagarkoti was brought back into the attack, the former South African captain started smoking the balls out of the park.

From 11 off 10 deliveries, de Villiers went damn crazy as ended up with 73 off 33 balls, which means, he scored the next 62  runs off just 23 balls. It was his inning that got RCB from ending at 160-175 to 195. The inning was so special, mostly because no other batsman had the ability skills, and execution to control the pace of the bowler that well.

#2 Washington Sundar

Sundar has been bowling brilliantly for the Challengers since the last 3-4 games, While in other games had generally been just economical, in this one, he chose to diversify his role as a wicket-taker and took two crucial wickets of Eoin Morgan and Nitish Rana.

More than the wickets, what was important was the fact that he became un-hittable, and batsmen (who had not got out by then) tried to play him off as easily as possible, thereby stopping the flow of runs. The Tamil Nadu born ended up with the figures of 2/20 in his four overs.

#3 Navdeep Saini

Saini wasn’t among wickets in the match, he took only one. But that wicket was the one that shifted the balance in RCB’s favour. In his second over, he got rid of Tom Banton, the new entrant in the KKR playing eleven, with a ball that wasn’t just a ripper but almost a perfect length ball, beating Banton on all fronts and crashed through his defense. Saini though ended up with the figures 1/17 in three overs.

Flops

#1 Andre Russell

Andre Russell is someone that KKR looks up to win them 3-4 games of the season single-handedly. However, this series has been one of the worst for the West Indian as he hasn’t been able to contribute much with the bat for the team.

Apart from the game against Rajasthan Royals where he scored a quickfire 24 off 14 balls, nothing worth noticing has come from Russell’s bat. Even in today’s game, after bowling two responsible overs, the guy bowling theirs over was asked something and killed as well.

#2 Tom Banton

Playing only his 1st IPL game, Banton couldn’t actually handle the system as he was bowled by a KKR fast bowler. Banton's wicket put pressure on others to follow suit and thus many other people were wither bowled or caught out. But not being able to score, putting pressure on others make Banton a flop for sure.

Having lost the game in such a bad way, Dinesh Karthik and Co. would cool off for the next three days before facing Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi. RCB would be up against the Kings XI Punjab in two days' time though.

IPL 2020: Captain Rohit Sharma warns Mumbai Indians against complacency

The Mumbai Indians have been the team to beat in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League but captain Rohit Sharam is in no mood to let his guards down. Rohit has urged his teammates to ward off any signs of complacency and asked them to finetune their games to a level that teams can’t match up the men in blue in coming days of the tournament. “We have had a good run so far. Like we all know this is where the challenges will arise more, the backend of the tournament, we all know what happens. The teams will start catching up and we just got to be ahead of them,” Rohit said to Mumbai Indians’ social media channel in an interaction. The Mumbai Indians have won five out of the seven matches played so far in the season and sitting comfortably at the top position on the IPL 2020 points table. Rohit’s words may well have been pointed towards players who are not converting their good starts into big innings for the team and the team could win the match against the Delhi Capitals only in the last over while it looked like a seamless chase. However, Rohit refuses to specifically point fingers at individuals and asks the team to lift the level of performances in order to challenge teams as they will up the ante in order to catch up with the table-topper Mumbai Indians. “We have always spoken about it. Individuals know exactly how to figure that out. Whatever we have discussed, whatever we have planned, so far I think we have executed those plans very well. “I know, but this is not the end and this is not the start. We are right in the middle, we know that. Let’s keep the focus on it, focus is always important. The next seven games that we are going to play will be important, at the same time we cannot forget to enjoy.” Rohit added.

IPL 2020 | SRH vs CSK: Match Preview, Predicted XI & Dream11 Fantasy Picks

The Chennai Super Kings are facing an unprecedented time in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier and staring at their lowest point in the history of the league. MS Dhoni likened the state of his team to a ship that has too many holes and while the captain (himself) tries to plug one hole, another on props to maintain the equilibrium of the team’s position. The team will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next encounter as the first match of the round two of clashes between sides. Sunrises too, have not had the best of the IPL 2020 and have lost more matches than they have won halfway into the ongoing season. The team has not replicated the potential it has and the captain David Warner would do well to remind his team that half the battle to get into the playoffs has already been lost and any delay in finding form will see them miss out from the top four teams of the league. However, he needs to be a bit cautious as well as the team has not been horrible in the four matches it has lost so far, and that there are still seven matches left to be played which is a good amount of matches to turnaround an IPL season. On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings have a long list of problems and as the captain, Dhoni has put in the best possible way drawing a comparison with a ship. The team has looked without any sound planning on the field and has been left in too much of preservation while batting at the start of the innings. The opening pair of Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson has not been able to get going from the word go and the year-long belief of CSK batting to take time initially and backing the lower order batsmen to do the bulk of striking have not been working in this season. The team has been marred by a couple of withdrawals from Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh but nobody had expected that the team would look so toothless without them. A spin-heavy bowling line up has been the legacy of the Super Kings and their home ground Chepauk has played a significant part in their success over the years. The lack of spin in the pitches of the UAE may also have proved detrimental for the team but the CSK of old were very good at adapting to alien conditions and more often than not a hero used to emerge when the team was caught in pressure situations. All of that has unraveled in this season and the team needs a fresh approach to turn things around. Captain MS Dhoni has hinted at a possible change in the outlook of the batting line and emphasized the value of putting runs on the board when he said that preservation of wickets and taking the time initially mean nothing if the team finds itself short of the target at the end. Chasing, which has been a strong forte of the CSK side has been difficult in this IPL and the team in yellow has either opted to or been asked to chase in all the seven matches it has played. MS Dhoni needs to reboot the batting order and should look to separate the opening duo of Faf and Watson to bring in some momentum in the batting line up. On the other hand, the Sunrisers need to bring in power players who can strike big sixes and guide the team to high scores from the kind of middling scores the team is currently putting on the table. The team has shown the weakness of not being able to maintain momentum in the middle overs with calculative batting while striking big shots in the end overs have also been a prime concern. With the competition now heating up in this season and all the teams have already played half their matches, both these teams will be aware of the challenges before them and will be averse to giving even an inch of advantage to their opponent. The Super Kings have an upper hand in the head to head battle between the sides and MS Dhoni would be looking forward to extending the domination of the orange army. CSK has won 9 out of the 13 matches played between the two sides and if the Super Kings rediscover their mojo, it will be riveting contests between the sides led by Dhoni and David Warner. Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings: Match details Match Number- 29 Date: 13th October 2020, at 7:30 PM IST Venue: Dubai Pitch and weather The teams will face each other on a fresh pitch and it may assist new ball bowlers at the start of the match. There is a very low chance of the pitch getting slower while chasing but looking at the precedence in this season, teams will be wary of bowing first after winning the toss. The Super Kings have batted second in all their games so far and MS Dhoni would be hoping the rub of the green to his side at the toss so that his team can express themselves with the bat with no pressure of mounting strike rate. The weather is likely to remain cool in the evening time and players will be comfortable playing under temperature in the range of lower 30s. Team News Sunrisers Hyderabad The SRH lost the last game against the Rajasthan Royals and the bowling department turned out to be the culprit as it allowed the two inexperienced batsmen to take the game away from them after all the hard work. Khaleel Ahmed was impressive with the new ball but proved to be ineffective with the older one while Rashid Khan, too, was taken to the cleaners in his last over. The team may look to accommodate Mohammad Nabi in the XI to bring firepower in the lower batting order but that would mean leaving out a less explosive but highly reliable Kane Williamson, a choice David Warner would have hoped to avoid before the start of the tournament. The bowling line-up looks thin in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar but David Warner has his hands tied with lack of options and there is a chance that all the bowlers who featured against the Royals will again make their way into the playing XI. Expected XI David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Vijay Shankar, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan. Chennai Super Kings The Super Kings have lacked power in the batting lineup and MS Dhoni accepted the fat after the loss in the match against RCB. But, MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming will have to rely on the same set of players who have failed to win games for the side so far in the season. There is a possibility that the team will try some changes in the batting order but the team is unlikely to be changed. One possible change could be slotting Narayan Jagadeesan at the top of the order with Shane Watson and slotting Du Plessis at number three followed by Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni at number four and five. Expected XI Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), N Jagadeesan, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Karn Sharma Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings: Dream 11 team and suggestions Jonny Bairstow, David Warner, Faf Du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Sam Curran, Priyam Garg, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed, Rashid Khan Captain: Faf Du Plessis Vice-captain: David Warner
