IPL 2020 |MI vs KXIP: Match Preview, Predicted XI & Dream11 Fantasy Picks

A rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab would take on the juggernaut called Mumbai Indians and would try and stop their winning momentum which has extended to five matches in this year’s Indian Premier League. This might be the battle of first versus last in the points table but MI can never take their opposition lightly, mostly because of the performances that the Kings have put in across the tournament. And especially the last one where they outrightly defeated the more fancied Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mumbai look ‘unassailable’ in Harsha Bhogle’s words and the team would like to maintain the same level when they take on the KL Rahul side. The bowling, batting, and the captaincy look all in sync for Mumbai and it looks like a side that other teams would envy for the right amount of balance. In their last meeting, the Kings were humbled by the Mumbai team by 43 runs and thus it would present them an opportunity to not only win the game and continue to harbour hopes for the playoffs but also exact revenge.

Kings’ batting is brilliant and in the last game, their bowlers too did fantastically. With Chris Gayle making an impact in the game, it is likely that he would play the next game and can be a threat to Mumbai’s chances.

For Punjab to progress, Gayle is the Key

With Gayle’s entry into the side, the Punjab team was able to finish the game even after one among Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul got out. This was exactly what was needed for the team. Although they found it a bit late in the tournament, it still isn’t too late as five wins in the next six games might take them to the playoffs, but six in six would surely seal the deal. This is why an in-form Gayle is a requirement for Punjab’s progress in the team.

Mumbai need to take it easy

Sometimes while trying to prove a point and in an attempt to make a statement, teams try too hard to win all games. In that case, they might just overburden the players. In such a scenario, it is best advised that once they reach the 16 point mark, or even before that, Mumbai might like to try their bench strength so that an injury, if at all that happens (mostly it does) during the playoffs, they are not caught lagging.

Quality-wise, they are at their best with everybody clicking, and thus going through the routines is what is required.

Mumbai Indians v Kings XI Punjab: Match Details

Match Number- 36

Date: 18th October 2020, at 7:30 PM IST, 06.30 PM Local, 2.00 PM GMT

Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Broadcast: Star Sports and Hotstar

Pitch Report

The Dubai wicket in the course of the tournament has changed a lot as now it is not about scoring big rather about defending small totals. In the last four games at the stadium, the total has generally been in the range of 160-180 and most of the time, the team batting first has defended those totals, clearly suggesting that the teams would look to put totals on the board and defend it.

Weather and Toss

The weather across the Emirates has been good for playing cricket so far. The humidity has drained down and the conditions have become soothing in the evening, sometimes also offering swing. Their dew is no problem in case of evening matches now and hence toss becomes important because teams would like to use the used wicket for their spinners to utilize it.

Team News

Mumbai Indians

The team is totally fit and fine and performing in the best of their abilities. In such a case, changes in the team are hard to bring in. But if Rohit Sharma likes to experiment, we might see a Dhawal Kulkarni or Digvijay Deshmukh being given a chance to rest Bumrah for a game or two. Anukul Roy might also be given an opportunity at the place of Krunal Pandya.

Expected XI

Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Kings XI Punjab

The Punjab team after finally finding a winning combination would obviously not like to disturb it until and unless there is some injury to any player. So in that case, we might expect the same XI that played against RCB for this match.

Expected XI

Chris Gayle, KL Rahul (c & wk), Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, Deepak Hooda, Chris Jordan, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh

Mumbai Indians v Kings XI Punjab: Dream11 team and suggestions

Quinton de Kock (wk) (vc), Chris Gayle,  Mayank Agarwal,  Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul (c), Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Nathan Coulter Nile, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Captain: KL Rahul

Vice-captain: Quinton de Kock

BCCI Apex council meets today; three main agendas of Sourav Ganguly-led meeting

The Apex council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is scheduled to meet virtually to chart out strategies for the upcoming series and other administration related matters. The upcoming tour of Australia and a planned home series against England will dominate the majority of duration of the meeting which will be chaired by president Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah, and treasurer Arun Dhumal who are in the United Arab Emirates to oversee the facilities for the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. The council is expected to discuss the possibility of a shorter quarantine period after the arrival of the Indian contingent in Brisbane for a full tour comprising Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. As per reports, there will be as many as 28 players travelling to Australia for the multi-format series. "Cricket Australia has drawn up a rough schedule which is yet to be finalised. That will be discussed and also whether there could be a possible relaxation of the 14-day quarantine. The BCCI has already appealed to the Queensland Health department for a possible relaxation. Even if there is an option to train, it will be great,” news agency PTI quoted a BCCI source as saying. England’s tour to India that is scheduled to follow the series against Australia is likely to be the agenda number two for the Sourav Ganguly-led council. The BCCI is fretting over creating a bio-secure bubble for the English players like in the IPL and host the series in India. Reportedly, the board also has the option of hosting the Englishmen in the UAE just like the current edition of the IPL. The agenda number three on the office bearer's mind will be the scheduling of the domestic cricket, on which majority of the players involved in the game depend in the country. There is a possibility of the BCCI going back to the zonal system in the Ranji Trophy to categorise teams into different groups in order to reduce the number of league matches but there are no definitive signs of what is on the BCCI’s mind. IPL 2020: Bumrah 3 - 0 Russell - How Rohit Sharma and Co. cracked the Dre Russ code

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma brought his go-to bowler in order to counter Andre Russell in Friday’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. The move paid off as Bumrah got the better of the hard-hitter. In the 11th over of the game, Bumrah aimed at Russell’s rib-cage - an area which the Jamaican is yet to fix. The batter isn’t the best customer against short balls or anything that comes shooting towards his body. However, Russell gave the impression that he is well prepared this time, having lost his wicket to the same pacer in the previous encounter. He hit a square-cut to fetch a boundary but kept shuffling away from the stumps in order to tackle a certain short delivery. Bumrah didn’t waste much time and bowled one short; Russell was caught off-guard while backing away and it resulted in his dismissal. The rivalry between the two continues to be a talking point. Bumrah has now dismissed the KKR batter on three occasions in 34 balls, conceding mere 44 runs. “I believe a lot in match-ups, we have got success as a team (doing it) - understanding the match-ups is important but we need to be instinctive at times. Krunal and Rahul also bowled to Russell, I took a chance with the ball gripping and turning, but I knew Bumrah was the go-to guy against him.” Rohit said post the match. KKR were in tatters at one stage. Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan put on a rescue act to take the total to 148/5. Mumbai made light work of it, winning the contest by eight wickets and with more than three overs to spare.

You don't do it in the middle of the IPL - Gautam Gambhir on Karthik and Morgan's role swap

Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has responded strongly to Dinesh Karthik’s decision to hand over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan. According to the former cricketer, Morgan won’t be able to change KKR’s fortunes in a drastic manner. According to Gambhir, the decision to change the captain in the middle of the season made little sense. In fact, KKR aren’t doing poorly in the ongoing IPL 2020. Despite losing a couple of games in a hapless manner, the side is still at the fourth spot with four wins and as many losses. “Lil surprised. He’s obviously leading KKR for the last 2 and a half years. You don’t do it in the middle of the season. KKR is not in that bad a position that someone needs to change a captain, so yeah little bit surprised,” Gambhir said on Star Sports Morgan has been a vital part of the leadership group at the Knight Riders camp. His rapport with coach Brendon McCullum has always been a talking point ever since the think tank roped him in for the 13th edition of the league. Gambhir, although, believes that a good relationship doesn’t guarantee success. He adds to it by saying that a coach must build a solid relationship with the captain of the side. “Cricket is not about relationships, it’s about performances and honestly, I don’t think Morgan can change a lot of things. He could’ve changed a lot of things had he captained from the start of the tournament. No one changes during the middle of the tournament. It’s nice to have a good relationship between the coach and the captain,” he added. Meanwhile, Morgan’s first match as the captain didn’t go as per plan. KKR suffered a heavy defeat in the hands of Mumbai Indians losing the encounter by eight wickets. They will be taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad next on Sunday, 18 October. Powered by Froala Editor
