Resounding victory against arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad was special for Team India on multiple fronts. Rohit Sharma & company not only achieved their third successive win in the ICC World Cup 2023 but also progressed to regain the No.1 rank in One-Day Internationals on Saturday (October 14).

India's seven-wicket hammering of Pakistan in front of a capacity crowd of 1.2 lakhs at the new stadium in Ahmedabad helped the nation climb up in the ICC rankings table for 50-over format. As per the latest update to the ICC rankings, India now hold the numero uno spot with 118 rating points.

Rohit's men, who had reached the pedestal during the recent home series against Australia before slipping behind Pakistan due to other results, have now regained the prestigious No.1 slot with a comfortable three-points lead above their historic rivals.

The full-fledged battering reserved for Pakistan was India's tenth victory in the last 12 One-Day Internationals played since the beginning of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka last month. A strong and consistent One-Day outfit, the two-time world champions earned the deserved rewards for peaking from the onset of the 2023 edition at home.

On the other hand, Pakistan have been on a downward curve since the Asia Cup. The Asian giants crashed out of the continental event in Sri Lanka with just a solitary win in the Super 4s stage and were exposed with their longstanding frailties in the high-voltage encounter against India in Ahmedabad despite earlier wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

Injury to key speedster Naseem Shah and the struggles of limited-over gems Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi have shaken Pakistan up and left the rest of the pack vulnerable against stiff oppositions at the World Cup.

India flexed their muscles against the mercurial Pakistanis with a brilliant bowling display and an equally commanding performance on the batting front. The tournament hosts dominated the match after Babar's steady half-century had raised Pakistan's hopes at 155/2.

Pakistan suffered a horrendous collapse, losing their last eight wickets for just 36 runs to be dismissed for 191. Rohit later smashed a breathtaking 86 off 63 deliveries to guide India to a seven-wicket triumph.
