India among full members to tour Ireland in 2022, set to play two T20Is

Cricket Ireland has confirmed that the side will be up against the Indian in two T20Is scheduled to take place on June 26 and June 28 in Malahide. The Irish team will be playing white-ball fixtures against India, New Zealand, South Africa and Afghanistan over a two-month period.

“This summer will be a ‘Season of Stars’ as India, New Zealand and Afghanistan tour Ireland, while we will play South Africa in Bristol. We’re set for the biggest home international season in Ireland ever!” Cricket Ireland tweeted.

“We are delighted to welcome back India Men’s team for the first time since 2018, as well as the number one-ranked ODI side, the Black Caps, who were last here in 2017,” Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland, said.

“Just as important, given we will shortly be heading to a T20 WC, are the two T20I series against South Africa and Afghanistan. Our thanks goes to Gloucestershire Cricket Club for agreeing to host the South African series.”

Ireland have postponed this year’s tour to Zimbabwe and home series against Bangladesh for 2023.

“Taking all these into consideration, we decided to postpone both this year’s planned tour to Zimbabwe in April and the home Bangladesh series into 2023.”

IND vs SL | 1st Test: Virat Kohli's 100th Test to have spectators in stands

The first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali which begins on March 4, 2022 will now have fans in the stands. It was earlier decided that the clash will be held behind closed doors but the BCCI has now given permission to have spectators in the ground. "The first Test between India and Sri Lanka to be played at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali will not be held behind closed doors. The decision to allow spectators into the ground is one taken by the State Cricketing Associations and in the present circumstances, is based on various factors. I have spoken with the PCA office bearers and they have confirmed that cricket fans will be able to witness the historic moment of Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test match," Jay Shah said in a statement on Tuesday (March 1). "While we started off the West Indies Tour of India behind closed doors, the encouraging dip in COVID-19 cases allowed the hosting associations to permit crowds. Based on the advisories by the State Health Authorities fans were able to witness the games in Kolkata and Dharamsala while UPCA had Lucknow T20I without crowds owing to polling a day before the match.” Former India skipper Virat Kohli will be playing his 100th Test when he takes the field against the Lankan Lions. Shah wished luck to Kohli as he adds another feather to his hat. "I am really looking forward to Virat Kohli's 100th Test and wish our champion cricketer the very best. This is an occasion for our fans to savour. May he continue to represent the country in many more matches to come."
