IND vs WI | CAB requests BCCI to allow spectators at Eden Gardens for West Indies T20Is

In a latest development, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow spectators at the Eden Gardens for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies.

Following the culmination of ongoing One-day International rubber, the Rohit Sharma-led unit will lock horns with Kieron Pollard's men in three T20Is in Kolkata.

The ODI series  taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad behind closed doors as part of Covid-19 related precautions.

The T20I rubber was also initially scheduled to take place without the presence of fans in the stadium. However, the Cricket Association of Bengal has now placed a request to the Indian board to reconsider its decision.

In a statement, CAB said, "The matter relating to the hosting of the three T20 international matches between India and West Indies were discussed threadbare," CAB said in a statement.

"It was informed to the members that the CAB has requested the BCCI to allow spectators at the venue. Feedback from the BCCI is awaited. CAB is still hopeful of a positive outcome," it added.

In addition to this, the Apex Council Meeting also ratified the decision to renovate the existing flood light System at the Eden Gardens.

The council also approved the fixtures and tournament rules for the upcoming first and second league division tournaments.

"Registration window for the players has been extended till 28 February 2022 keeping in mind the current relaxations accorded by the State Government so that it's easier for the clubs, units as well as the players to come and complete their registration formalities," said CAB.

The T20I matches will be played at the Eden Gardens on February 16, 18 and 20 respectively. This will be the first time that the Eden Gardens will stage an International match since hosting India's maiden day-night Test against Bangladesh back in 2019.

India have been forced to do experiments in lieu of the unfortunate Covid-19 result, while the West Indies are looking to set up a new team that can sustain them for over the next 4-5 years. While India have reaped the benefits of Washington Sundar’s new revamped trajectory the West Indies are still searching for a foothold in the series. With that in mind, we move into the third and the final game of the series where Rohit Sharma has clearly mentioned that India will look to experiment. The dressing room leaders in the West Indian team have asked for the batters to put more prize on their wickets, but that is yet to be seen. The visitors have stitched just one 50+ partnership in the series and it is not helping the bowling department that has been running up and putting their heart into what they do. Indians got a taste of Odean Smith - who has been demanding a first team spot through the last series, rattled the Indian batters with his short deliveries. West Indies would hope that their batting department can follow it up in this final game. It also needs to be pointed out that the second match was played on a red soil pitch and if it is the case again, then pacers will be able to extract more bounce than the first ODI. If you win the toss, bat first. Team News West Indies For the visitors, the only thing that will keep them going is the new structure of the ICC. The ODI Super League awards 10 points if you win a game, and every win against India in India counts as a big difference.
