IND vs SA | 'I am sure he will improve' - Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Rishabh Pant's captaincy

Rishabh Pant had a forgettable outing in his first game as India's captain as the Men in Blue failed to defend a massive total of 211 in the first T20I of the five-match series against South Africa in Delhi on Thursday. Although the dynamic southpaw hammered a crucial 16-ball-29 with the bat, some of his on-field calls received severe backlash.

However, the experienced Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has backed Rishabh Pant to gradually improve his leadership skills. In the pre-match press conference held ahead of the second T20I at Cuttack, Bhuvneshwar opined that Pant shouldn't be judged as a captain as it was his first match as the Indian skipper. The Meerut-born pacer also expected the keeper-batter from Delhi to evolve as a leader with the progression of the series.

"He's a young captain and it was his first match. I'm sure he will try to do better and improve as the series progresses", Bhuvneshwar said.

Continuing, Bhuvneshwar stressed that the ordinary performance by the bowling unit let the Indian captain down, and he also expected better returns from the bowlers in the second T20I. He further argued that a captain is as good as his team, and people would've applauded his captaincy skills had the Indian bowlers succeeded in defending the total.

"Generally, the captain is as good as the team and it's a team effort. Our bowling did not go off well and let him down. If we did well, then you would have hailed his decision-making skills. I'm sure he will do well. As a bowling unit, we had an off day but that's okay we just want to come back in the next match", the 32-year-old concluded.

With a clinical victory in the first game, the visitors are high on confidence and would like to continue their winning run. But, on the other hand, India will certainly aim at levelling the series by emerging victorious in the second T20I to be played tonight in Cuttack.

Lanka Premier League to start from July 31

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday (June 10) announced that the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) would commence on July 31, with the final to be played on August 21. The LPL is Sri Lanka's premier franchise T20 league which was founded in 2018, with its first edition taking place back in 2020. Like the previous two editions, five teams will be participating in LPL 2022, amid all the rumours of adding a sixth team this season as SLC confirmed that it would remain a five-team tournament. There will be 24 games in total throughout the tournament and the registration of International Players for the Player Draft of the LPL 2022 will commence shortly as per SLC media release. R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will host the league games, with the knockouts to be played at MRICS in Hambantota. "We are extremely happy to announce the 3rd edition of the Lanka Premier League, which has started its journey toward carving a place in the global T20 League competitions, as a formidable tournament," said Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket. Jaffna Kings and Galle Gladiators are the two most successful teams in the short history of LPL. Both the teams reached the finals in the last two editions, with Jaffna clinching the title both times. Sri Lanka will be playing Pakistan at home in July, followed by the LPL from July 31. Then the Asia Cup in September will most likely take place in Sri Lanka. So there is a lot of T20 cricket coming ahead for the Sri Lankan players before going to the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Chris Woakes likely to return to competitive cricket in last week of June

Over the years, the England all-rounder Chris Woakes has been impressive in both departments of the game. His performances have left an impact on the results, especially in the red-ball format, where he is valuable for the team to pick up wickets with the new ball and score handy runs in the lower order. Woakes has donned the whites for England on only 12 occasions in the last two years due to the long-standing knee injury. He last featured for the English team in the three-match Test series against West Indies earlier this year, where he could secure only five wickets at 48.80. Since then, he has not played any domestic match, particularly for Warwickshire in the 2022 edition of County Championship. Woakes served as a guest commentator on Sky Sports coverage for the 2nd Test between England and New Zealand and reckoned that the knee injury had kept him out of action for the last few months. The 33-year-old seamer revealed that he has made a comeback and is undergoing light practice sessions. "My body needed a bit of a break. The knee is the thing causing me most grief at the moment," Woakes said. "It's been a tricky period of time. But it feels like it's turned a corner. I've got the ball back in my hand, albeit some very light bowling sessions, but I feel like competitive cricket isn't too far away," he reckoned. The talented all-rounder has hinted that he might return to play in the County Championship at the end of the month. The game between Warwickshire and Northamptonshire will take place from June 26 at Northampton. "Personally, I'd like to be playing by the end of the month. I still see myself as an all-format player. I'd like to do that as long as possible. I don't feel like I'm anywhere near the end," Woakes concluded.

PAK vs WI | 3rd ODI | Preview, Prediction, Probable XI, CREX XI

Pakistan will lock horns against the West Indies in the 3rd ODI of the three-match ODI series on Sunday (June 12th) at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. Pakistan has already sealed the ODI series, having defeated the West Indies in the first two ODIs and will be coming into the Sunday game with an unassailable 2-0 lead. The second ODI saw the host electing to bat first. Captain Babar Azam with Imam-ul-Haq added another century-run stand after losing Fakhar Zaman early. Both Babar and Imam scored 70 odd each before getting out cheaply, followed by a middle-order collapse, and Pakistan failed to give a potential 300+ target which was looking very much possible at one point. They finished at 275 for 8 in 50 overs and Akeal Hosein topped the wicket-taking chart for the West Indies with a 3 for 52. In reply, West Indies suffered a significant setback as they lost the in-form, Shai Hope, in the very first over. Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Brooks added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket, setting up a good foundation for the chase. However, the visitors never came back after losing the wicket of Mayers, leading to a 155 bowled in the end. Mohammad Wasim Jr came into the team in place of Hasan Ali and took three wickets, including the in-form Mayers' wicket. At the other end, Mohammad Nawaz was the main strike bowler, dismissing the entire middle order and registered his career-best figure of 4 for 19. Babar and Azam continue to pile up runs as both are the highest run-scorers in the series. Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks will hopefully finish the series on a high. Akeal and Nawaz are the top wicket-takers in the series for their respective sides. Although the series is already done, it's not a dead rubber on Sunday. Both the teams will come out with their best, with 10 ODI Super League points up for grabs. Pakistan is currently slotted at fourth position with 80 points. On the other hand, West Indies went down to fifth, needing a win in the final ODI desperately as they have a very small number of games left in their hands in comparison to all other teams competing for direct qualification to the 2023 ODI World Cup. Match Details: Match: Pakistan vs West Indies, 2nd ODI Venue: Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan Date & Time: June 12th at 04:30 PM IST Live Streaming: Sony Sports Network Pitch Report: The pitch at the Multan Cricket Stadium is a good pitch to bat on. Top-order will enjoy the initial period of the play against the new ball, as we saw in the first two ODIs. However, spinners are likely to take control later as the game progresses. The average first innings total on this wicket should be around 285. The team winning the toss should be bowling first.
