IND vs NZ | 1st T20I: Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar limit Kiwis after Guptill, Chapman threatened big score

Both New Zealand and India made a reasonable start to the T20 series in the first game of the series in Jaipur. Having been asked to bat first on a wet surface, new Zealand were helped by a controlled yet commanding innings by Mark Chapman and Martin Guptill, who batted like glue that held the Blackcaps batting together. Chapman hit his second fifty of the T20 internationals and finished with a 50-ball 63 by Ravichandran Ashwin, who was at his best with the ball. He first got India back in the game by breaking the stand between Chapman and Guptill by luring the left-hander with a slower delivery. He dismissed Glenn Phillips in the same over with a carrom ball that the batsman had no clue of to derail what was progressing as a good batting effort by the Kiwis. No other New Zealand batsmen could find timing and firepower to go from the word go and Guptill took it upon himself to keep New Zealand ahead in the game. He hit some gigantic sixes of Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar before the former found him caught at the boundary. India could have conceded runs in excess of 180 runs with the kind of platform Chapman and Guptill provided them with but Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Siraj ensured they could not go beyond 164 runs in their 20 overs of batting.

Bangladesh Women punish Zimbabwe Women to clean sweep ODI series

Bangladesh Women punished Zimbabwe Women by seven wickets with as many as 190 balls remaining in the third ODI of the series to register a clean sweep in the three-match long ODI series in Bulawayo. Zimbabweans won the toss and elected to bat first but Bangladesh Women had different ideas as the left-arm spinner Nahida Akter-led bowling attack swept the hosts’ batting lineup for 72 with a five-wicket-haul. Sharne Mayers was the highest scorer from the hosts’ side and she scored more than fifty per cent of the runs scored by the Zimbabwe Women. As many as six batters were dismissed for a duck as the hosts were skittled inside 28 overs. In reply, Bangladesh Women were steady with the bat and although they lost three wickets at regular intervals, there was no collapse to rescue the down and out Zimbabwe Women and the visitors were all over them in all three games of the series. They had won the first ODI of the series by eight wickets while the second ODI produced a nine-wicket win for the Bangladesh Women.

After the new captain, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wet surface at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, India were off to a brilliant start with Bhuvneshwar Kumar finding prodigious swing to castle the man in form Daryl Mitchell. However, their celebration was short-lived as the new addition to the New Zealand side, Mark Chapman hit a fighting and fluent fifty to put the Blackcaps in the game. After losing the wicket in the first over, Chapman and Martin Guptill stitched a controlled partnership of 95 runs. He reached his fifty in T20 internationals in 45 balls and it was his first such milestone for New Zealand. He has one half-century in T20 cricket while playing for Singapore. India are playing their first game under the new leadership group of Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid and KL Rahul while the Blackcaps are without their full-time captain Kane Williamson. They are also without Devon Conway. India handed Venkatesh Iyer T20 international debut and he is likely to bat in the lower middle order and he was also expected to roll his arm overs for some overs with the ball. However, the skipper Rohit Sharma did not offer him that opportunity till the 12th over of the game.
