World T20 2021: Scotland lose six wickets in final two overs against PNG

PNG made a fine return against Scotland with the ball during the World T20 2021 match in Al Amerat on Tuesday after they scalped six wickets in the final two overs. Batting first, Scotland lost a couple of early wickets and were reduced to 26/2 when Cross and Berrington joined hands to provide the resistance to the side. The two batsmen compiled a partnership of 92 runs for the third wicket before Cross was dismissed for 45 off 36. Berrington on the other hand went on to score a 49-ball 70 that included three maximums and six fours during the course. The right-hander also stitched a stand of 33 runs with MacLeod for the fourth wicket but the latter’s dismissal broke the shackles and PNG were back in the game as Scotland saw a flurry of wickets in quick succession. They were reduced to 165/7 to eventually get restricted to 165/9 in 20 overs. Kabua Morea picked up a total of four wickets at the cost of 31 runs in 4 overs while Chad Soper had three scalps to his name for 24 runs in 4 overs. Simon Atai returned with figures of 1/20 in three overs. Scotland who have a win under their belt in the competition lost four wickets in the final over of the innings.

England tour of West Indies confirmed, teams to fight for Richards-Botham Trophy in three match series

The England Men’s team’s tour of West Indies in 2022 has been confirmed and the Cricket West Indies released the schedule of the tour which will take place n two legs, where the teams will play in a first-ever five-match T20I series in January. The West Indies will then tour India in February as England return back home. All the T20Is will take place in Barbados and will be played across a nine-day period from January 22 to 30, 2022. The Richards-Botham Trophy, the new nomenclature for England’s tour to West Indies in terms of Tests, will begin from March 8 and fittingly so at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS) in Antigua. The caravan will then move to Kensington Oval in Barbados for the 2nd Test starting on March 16 before finally ending with the 3rd Test at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada. Johnny Grave, CEO of CWI was ecstatic with the announcement and hoped that the new series will go on to add to the legacy of cricket the two teams have created over the years. “A West Indies vs England home Test Series is the biggest sporting and sports tourism event in the Caribbean. Dating back to 1930 when the first England team visited, these fixtures are steeped in history and a new chapter in this great rivalry will be written, this time with the prize of the new Richards-Botham Trophy,” Grave was quoted as saying on West Indies’ official website. “Celebrating these two heroes of cricket and lifelong friends with the new trophy, staging world-class cricket and hosting thousands of England fans will be a welcome boost for cricket and for the whole region,” he added. Kapil Dev shares how Madan Lal's persistence won India their first World Cup

Former India captain Kapil Dev created history back in the year 1983 when he led the side to the first World Cup win. Sharing an anecdote from the final match against West Indies, Kapil in a video posted by CRED on their official social media account revealed how Madan Lal persisted on bowling against Viv Richards and eventually got successful in taking his wicket. “I was very young and I had so many senior cricketers with me but my job was to take them along. I never had to tell Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Madan Lal, Syed Kirmani what to do. I had to make sure that I keep them together,” Dev said. “What happened in 1983, Madan Lal had that will that ‘I will get Viv Richards out’. He had more will than me at that time. I told Madan Lal to take some break but he insisted that ‘I have got Richards out many times but he still underestimates me. Give me one more over.’ I think when the players start believing then you have to go with the flow. Most importantly, there should not be Plan B. So have only one plan to win,” he added. Kapil was himself involved in Richards’ dismissal then after he grabbed a blinder while running backwards to send him back in the pavilion for 33. India successfully defended a target of 184 runs to clinch the win at Lord’s.

WBBL 2021 | Rachel Priest’s blistering century powers Hurricanes to maiden victory

It was a day to remember for Hobart Hurricanes Women skipper Rachel Priest as she became the third New Zealand woman after Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine to hit a century in the Women’s Big Bash League history. It was courtesy of her century that Hurricanes Women got to their first-ever win in the WBBL 2021. Batting first after losing the toss, Hurricanes didn’t really have a good start and wickets kept falling at regular intervals even as Preist kept the other end occupied and runs flew from her bat. In fact, the other three batters in the top four apart from Priest couldn’t even get to double figures. At 39-3, it seemed like this game would be heading in a similar trajectory with Hurricanes falling for a low total. But Nicola Carey handed in with her captain as Priest made sure that her sermons were heard loud and clear in all directions of the ground in the form of fours and sixes. The Kiwi woman reached her fifty in 41 balls. Once Carey was gone, Naomi Stalenberg did good enough to accompany her 36-year-old senior partner as she reached her hundred, becoming the first woman from the Hurricanes side to reach that milestone. She accumulated her last fifty runs in just 26 balls and in her entire knock, hit 10 fours and seven sixes. Hurricanes reached 152-4 in the end as Priest remained unbeaten on 107. The Melbourne Stars Women lost the plot early in the chase and were 3-2 in the first three overs. After that, it was hard for the team in green to come back as they rolled over for 89 in the 20th over. Skipper Meg Lanning top-scored for stars with her 25 while Ruth Johnston was the top wi ket taker for Hurricanes, ending her spell with figures of 4-8 in 3.2 overs.
