History repeated itself 20 years later in Ahmedabad when Australia again defeated India in the World Cup 2023 comfortably by six wickets courtesy of some top-class bowling and a magnificent hundred by Travis Head to seal their sixth World Cup title in front of a 130 K-strong crowd.
Hosts India were completely outplayed on a slow track where batting was extremely difficult on a slow track in the first innings. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played valuable innings but to no resort, as they could only reach 240 with Mitchell Starc bagging three wickets.
In reply, Australia lost a few wickets early but recovered quite well, thanks to Head's 137 and Marnus Labushagne's 58* to finish the game in just 43 overs. Spinners were neutralized on this wicket where run-scoring was difficult in the first half, which made things breezy for the Pat Cummins-led side, taking them to glory.

However, David Miller's flamboyant century saved their day, who helped his side by taking the score to 212 in harsh batting conditions.

Spinners were putting the pressure on the batters, who somehow managed to finish the match with crucial partnerships at the back end.

The revenge of Manchester 2019 defeat was finally avenged by India in Mumbai, where they defeated New Zealand in the high-scoring game by a margin of 70 runs on the back of incredible batting performances from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, whereas Mohammed Shami with the ball was just magnificent.
India posted a heavy total of 397 runs, with Kohli scoring his 50th ODI ton, while Iyer grabbed the opportunity to smash his hundred, too, on the batting track. Shubman Gill impressed with 80 after skipper Rohit Sharma started the innings with a flying 47. Bowlers were taken to the cleaners, with Tim Southee going for 100.
The BlackCaps had a tough time dealing with Shami, who bagged a seven-wicket haul in one of the most crucial games for India, however, some valiant fight from Daryl Mitchell (134) took them to 327, which still was not enough for a place in the finals.

Hosts, India returned undefeated from the group stage after they cleaned up the Netherlands in the final game of the group stage of the World Cup 2023, which was held in Bengaluru by a massive margin of 160 runs, courtesy of two high-class centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul and significant contributions from the top-order.
Men in Blue batted first and put up a show right from the ball one, with top three batters skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli all scoring fifty plus and were later joined by Iyer and Rahul, who pounced on every opportunity against the bowlers to smash 128* and 102, respectively, to push the total to 410.
The Dutch batters had a decent time in the middle but lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Teja Nidamanuru crossing the fifty-run mark, whereas two surprising additions, Kohli and Rohit, both bagged a wicket each to bowl out the opposition for 250.
Result: India won by 160 runs.

England finally joined the party, albeit a little late, but enough to knock the Pakistan side out of the World Cup 2023 as David Willey ended his international career on a high with a player-of-the-match performance, helping his team earn a 93-run victory.
The Jos Buttler-led side had a rollicking start to the game, with runs flowing easily for the top order as Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Ben Stokes all struck fifties to take their total to 337. Haris Rauf grabbed three wickets, while Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr dismissed two of the opposition batters.
Pakistan, in reply, looked pale against the English bowling line-up, considering they were bowled out for just 244, with Willey bagging three crucial wickets. Agha Salman put up some fight by scoring 51, but they would have always fallen short with just a single contribution from the batting order.
Result: England won by 93 runs.

It was Mitchell Marsh's show against Bangladesh in Pune, who struck a magnificent 177* to seal the 307 run chase for his side inside 45 overs as Australia finished their group stage on a high before the big semi-final game. David Warner and Steve Smith played fine hands with fifty-plus scores on a solid batting track where Adam Zampa picked two wickets for 32 runs.
Bangladesh were able to cross the 300-run mark on the back of a fantastic 74 from Towhid Hridoy as he paced his innings well with contributions coming from the top-order. Run-scoring was slightly easier on this wicket, considering there was true bounce.
In reply, Australia flexed their batting muscle as they eased the chase with eight wickets remaining, with Marsh taking on the bowlers right from the start. The Kangaroos finally had a perfect game they had been looking for since the beginning of the tournament.

It was another high-class show from the South African side who got past Afghanistan, convincingly, overpowering them in Ahmedabad as they finished the game with five wickets and 15 balls to spare. Powered by Gerald Coetzee's four wickets and Rassie van der Dussen's 76*, the Proteas retained second position on the points table.
Afghanistan lost wickets at regular intervals in their innings, but a top show from Azmatullah Omarzai, who produced 97* with the bat, helped them reach 244 in the end. Keshav Maharaj had a decent day on the field, too, as he bowled with figures of 2/25 in his ten overs.
The Temba Bavuma-led side had a decent start through Quinton de Kock's 41 but were taken to the shores by Rassie and Andile Phehlukwayo (39*) in the 48th over. Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan bowled exceptionally well as they got two wickets each with an economy under four.

New Zealand almost solidified their position to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023 after a massive win over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru by five wickets, where they finished the game with more than 26 overs to spare. With this win, Pakistan and Afghanistan only have an outside chance to make it through, which looks unlikely at this stage.
The BlackCaps chased the score down in 23.2 overs with forty-plus scores from Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, who helped their side boost the NRR. The Kiwis are now the top contenders to qualify for the semi-final stage.

Batting first, the Three Lions posted 339 on the board, with Stokes smashing 108 while Dawid Malan and Chris Woakes playing knocks of 87 and 51 runs, respectively. England were 192/6 at one stage, but a proper rescuing act from Stokes and Woakes took them to score way above par.
The Dutch, conversely, felt pressure from the English spinners Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali, who bagged three wickets each to ensure that they remained under check from time to time. Teja Nidamanuru scored 41*, but that was never going to be enough as the Scott Edwards-led side were cleaned up for 179.

Afghanistan had almost pulled off an incredible victory over the mighty Australians had it not for superstar Glenn Maxwell, who played one of the finest knocks in World Cup history by smashing a double hundred to save the day single-handedly for the five-time champions as they progressed through to the semis.
Reeling at 91/7 at one stage, Maxwell thumped 201* under immense pressure in Wankhede when batting was extremely tough as he took the Kangaroos to 292 for a three-wicket victory with credit due to skipper Pat Cummins also who stood there till the end, forming a 202-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
Afghanistan earlier had the advantage as Ibrahim Zadran took the opportunity to smash the first World Cup hundred by an Afghan player, helping his side reach 291 on a decent batting wicket. This defeat would hurt them badly as they lost a massive chance to gain advantage for the semi-final berth, which is now an open three-way race.
Result: Australia won by three wickets.

The 'Naagin' rivalry just added another chapter to their book of controversies as Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in Delhi by three wickets, but not before there were some ugly face-offs between the players from both sides, most prominently between Angelo Mathews and Shakib Al Hasan as the former became the first player in history to be timed out.
Sri Lanka, while batting first, were able to post 279 on the board after Charith Asalanka played a fighting 108-run knock to resurrect his side's innings after a minor collapse caused some problems for them. But the limelight went to the moment when Mathews had to depart without being able to face a ball after a confrontation with umpires and the opposition skipper.
In reply, Bangla Tigers finished the match inside 42 overs as Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan played fine quality knocks of 90 and 82 runs, respectively, taking their side to victory.

49th ODI hundred on his 35th birthday, Indian superstar Virat Kohli achieved greatness in Kolkata against the mighty South African side, taking his team to another dominating victory by 243 runs as spinner Ravindra Jadeja bagged a five-wicket haul to bowl the opposition out for just 83 after Men in Blue put up 326 on the board.
India were off to a flyer, thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma, who fired with his 40. Then came Kohli (101*), who was joined by Shreyas Iyer (77) as both set the stage on fire with their 134-run partnership that too on a wicket that started to be tough on the batters and in the end, they reached a total well above par.
The Proteas' innings met a similar fate to the Sri Lankan innings, however, this time, Jadeja was the chief destroyer, whereas the highest scorer from their side was Marco Jansen, who could only manage 14.
Result: India won by 243 runs.

Defending champions England were finally knocked out of the World Cup 2023 after they succumbed to a 33-run loss against their arch-rivals Australia in Ahmedabad, courtesy of super shows from Marnus Labuschagne and Adam Zampa.
Australia had some tough time while batting first but recovered well as Labuschagne's 71 and valuable contributions from Steve Smith and Cameron Green saved their day, which helped them to post 286 on the board. Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers, with four wickets to his name that was enough to bowl out the Aussies.
However, in reply, the Three Lions also had a poor start with two down for 19, but Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes' half-centuries gave them some runs in the middle. However, after that, the wickets kept tumbling from one end, with Adam Zampa being the prime enforcer with three crucial wickets for just 21 runs, causing England to get bowled out for 253.
Result: Australia won by 33 runs.

Rain caused the match between New Zealand and Pakistan to end prematurely in Bengaluru, but not before yielding a result as the latter secured a magnificent 21-run victory through DLS even after conceding 401 runs from the Kiwis in their 50 overs. It was then the Fakhar Zaman show that transported Pakistan to safe territories by hammering a stylish, outrageous century.
Zaman smashed 126 runs not out with support from skipper Babar Azam, who played a vital 66* run knock to take Pakistan to 200/1 in 25.3 overs before rain came down pouring, resulting in the match being decided on DLS, which favoured the Green Team as they were ahead by 21 runs.
Earlier in the day, the BlackCaps batters displayed some tremendous batting performances as youngster Rachin Ravindra smashed his third World Cup hundred while skipper Kane Williamson, who returned to the fore, played a fine hand of 95 as they were able to achieve 401 runs on the board.

Afghanistan wants to play the semi-final, and they made their intentions clear against the Netherlands as a classic seven-wicket victory sealed the deal for them, taking them to eight points and fifth position on the table.
Chasing 180 for victory, the Afghan experienced batter Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi again took the responsibility to finish the job inside 32 overs as they both recorded another fifty-plus score, keeping their hopes alive for a top-four finish.
Earlier, the Dutch had a horrible time as four of their top batters lost their wicket through run-outs, causing great trouble for them. Then came Mohammad Nabi, who turned out to be the chief destroyer with three wickets to his name, leading to their collapse as they were bowled out for 179.

The Indian bowlers ran riot in Mumbai against the Sri Lanka side on Thursday as they cleaned them up for a paltry 55 inside the 20 overs, earning a 302-run victory while trying to chase a mammoth total of 358. The principal offender of the crime proved to be Mohammed Shami, who rattled the batting order and recorded five wickets to his name for 18 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj started the innings well, triggering the collapse with one and three wickets, respectively, reducing the Lankan side to four wickets with just three runs on the board. Later, it was just too difficult for the visitors to recover from the shock caused by some extremely high-class seam-bowling, which looked like a repeat of the Asia Cup 2023 final.
Earlier in the day, Shubman Gill (88), Virat Kohli (92) and Shreyas Iyer (82) played some fantastic knocks to propel India to 357, helping the side secure a semi-final berth.

What was expected to be a close encounter turned out to be a one-sided affair in favour of South Africa as they crushed New Zealand by 190 runs in Pune to assert their dominance. Proteas posted another massive total on the board, only to bowl out the Kiwis for under 200 in decent batting conditions as the former showcased all-round brilliance.
Africans batted first and demolished the BlackCaps bowling line-up to post 357 on the board, with Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen smashing magnificent tons to continue their form. David Miller again provided the finishing they required by getting fifty.
Kiwis had no answer to the Proteas firepower, with Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen doing the job with four and three wickets, respectively. Only Glenn Phillips was able to get past the half-century run mark, but that was never going to be enough, as they were bowled out for 167.
Result: South Africa won by 190 runs.

Finally, the Pakistan side returned to winning ways as they defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets and eliminated them from the World Cup 2023, thanks to an outstanding 128-run partnership between Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique, as both of them crossed the fifty-run mark. Earlier, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr scalped three each to clean the Tigers for 204.
Bangladesh had a poor start to their innings, losing three wickets for 23 runs, after which only Mahmudullah Riyad was able to cross the fifty while Shakib Al Hasan and Litton played 40-odd run knocks. It was the pace that caused problems as apart from Afridi and Wasim, Haris Rauf bagged two wickets, adding to a total of eight wickets for the speedsters.
Pakistan chased the score down with more than 17 overs remaining, and it was never a cause of concern for them as Zaman returned to the setup and played a fine innings of 81 runs with support from Shafique. Wickets were hard to pick, with only Mehidy Hasan Miraz getting all three wickets that fell.

Afghanistan went one step closer to their dream of qualifying for the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023 after they defeated Sri Lanka by giving another scintillating performance and, hence, winning the game by seven wickets as they chased down 242 in Pune on the back of outstanding batting from the middle-order. Earlier, Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up four wickets in his ten-over spell.
Sri Lanka could only post 241 on the board, with Pathum Nissanka scoring 46 at the top, who didn't find any significant contributions from the upcoming batters to deliver a par total as Afghan bowlers asserted their dominance by picking regular wickets.
Batting proved to be the strong point for Afghanistan for the second consecutive time, with Rahmat Shah (62), skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (58*) and Azmatullah Omarzai (73*) all scoring their respective half-centuries as the game was finished inside 46th over.

Sixth win on the trot, India steamrolled England in tough batting conditions in Lucknow, as they emerged victorious by 100 runs after putting up 229 on the board, with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring a gritty 87 at the top. The two-paced wicket was difficult to manage for the batters but proved to be a heaven for the bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
India had early jitters batting first as they lost wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli under 30, putting their middle-order to test, which only Suryakumar Yadav cleared by boosting the innings with his 49. David Willey was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets and was also quite decent with his line and length.
The Three Lions had a steady start with 30 on the board for no loss as dew settled in costing problems, but it didn't take much time for the pair of Bumrah and Shami to turn things around as they bagged three and four scalps, respectively. The deliveries were too good to survive for long, which meant that they eventually were bowled out for just 129, with wickets falling in clusters.

The Netherlands stunned Bangladesh in Kolkata yesterday night on the back of a wonderful bowling performance led by paceman Paul van Meekeren, who claimed a four-wicket haul and skipper Scott Edwards' resilient 68 as they clinched the victory by 87 runs in seaming and pacy conditions. Batting proved to be the more formidable task as the ball moved around a bit, causing problems for batters from both sides.
The Dutch were handed two early blows when batting first but recovered well due to Wesley Barresi and Sybrand Engelbrecht's valuable and supportive contributions to Edwards, helping them reach 229.
Bangladesh's problems started early, and they were never really able to sort them out as wickets fell in clusters one after the other, with the ball doing the talking for the pacers. Bas de Leede's two wickets well assisted Meekeren's spell as the Tigers were eventually bowled out for just 142.
Result: Netherlands won by 87 runs.

The World Cup has surely peaked, and this time in Dharamsala, where Australia versus New Zealand game produced another classic where the former emerged victorious by just five runs as a high-scoring thriller took everyone's breath away in the mountainous region. Travis Head finally returned to the international setup after injury and straightway earned the Player of the match award on his WC debut.
Australia batted first and were off to a flyer, thanks to Head's flamboyant century and David Warner's classic show, as they went on to score a mammoth total of 388. The wicket was a pure belter, which helped them with the shots, especially Glenn Maxwell and skipper Pat Cummins' late surge.
Chasing a gigantic total, the Kiwis never backed down as they were aggressive from the start, with youngster Rachin Ravindra (116) being the star of the show, who got great support from Daryl Mitchell (54). In the end, James Neesham (58) was the lone survivor fighting till the second last delivery, where he got run out, and eventually, they would only manage 383.

Chennai witnessed unbelievable scenes last night as the game between Pakistan and South Africa produced a heart-stopping thriller that ended in the latter's favour by just one wicket where things got extremely close for both sides, which resulted in the World Cup 2023 getting peaked. Aiden Markram's 91 and Tabraiz Shamsi's four-wicket haul helped the Proteas to earn the victory, but to Pakistan's credit, they pulled the match in their favour when the win looked unlikely.
South Africa chased down the total of 271 in the end, thanks to Keshav Maharaj, who held his nerve alongside Shamsi at the other end to take their side home when 11 runs were required, but just one wicket was left.
Pakistan had a decent day with the bat with half-centuries from Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel but were finding it tough on the field until a sudden collapse happened at the backend, and they found their way out of nowhere. Shaheen Afridi finally found his mojo back with a spell of three for 45 in ten overs.
Result: South Africa won by one wicket.

England's World Cup 2023 campaign is all but over, thanks to a spirited effort from a pumped Sri Lankan side that displayed class and professionalism in all departments, leading to a sensational eight-wicket victory on the back of a fantastic bowling performance from Lahiru Kumara, who struck with three extremely crucial wickets in Bengaluru.
Chasing 157 for victory, the Lankan side were also clinical with the bat, finishing the job within 26 overs as Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama paced the innings well with their respective half-centuries.
On the batting front, England were horrible after losing their first wicket for 45, they were eventually bowled out for 156, with Ben Stokes (43) being the highest run-scorer. Wickets kept falling in the middle as Sri Lankan bowlers didn't give anything away for free. Also, this was the fifth consecutive time the Island Nation overpowered England in the World Cups.

After early hiccups in the World Cup 2023, the Australian side are up and running with their third victory of the tournament over the Netherlands, where they demolished the Dutch side by a massive difference of 309 runs, thun earning the victory by the highest margin in World Cup history. Delhi witnessed another high-scoring affair, atleast from the Aussies, who posted 399 on the board on the back of the fastest ton in WCs by Glenn Maxwell in just 40 deliveries.
David Warner was the other show-stopper with 104 at the top, while Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne charged the innings with half-centuries to their name. Logan van Beek was decent with a four-fer, whereas Bas de Leede went for a whopping 115 in ten overs.
In return, the Netherlands side, desperately looking for runs, lost the plot early and, unfortunately, weren't even able to recover from the setbacks. Adam Zampa, with one more four-wicket haul to his name, was instrumental in bowling them out for a paltry 90.

South Africa's Quinton de Kock displayed his full range in the game against Bangladesh played in Mumbai as he slammed a memorable 174 that will go down as one of the finest knocks in World Cup history, which helped the side seal the match by 149 runs in the end after they put 382 on the board, on the back of other significant contributions.
Quinton was well supported by Heinrich Klassen's fiery 90 at the back end of the innings, with stand-in skipper Aiden Markram's classy 60 that set the tone for a big total. Bangladeshi bowlers were taken apart in the final few overs where stopping the Proteas batter seemed an uphill task.

The dream finally came true for Afghanistan in Chennai as they defeated the Pakistani side on Monday night for the first time in an ICC event, running home with an eight-wicket victory, chasing 283 with one over remaining. Special thanks to openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who provided a solid opening platform with a 130-run partnership.
From the start, Pakistan were a bit protective with the bat as they later started to struggle against the spin quartet of Afghanistan, with only Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique crossing the 50-run mark. Noor Ahmed, playing his first game in the tournament, bagged a three-wicket haul.

Mohammed Shami emerged as India's wrecker-in-chief with the ball, scalping a sensational fifer on his comeback match. In reply, India chased down the target despite a few hiccups, as Virat Kohli struck a flamboyant 95-run knock in just 104 deliveries.

England were handed another blow in the World Cup 2023 through the hands of South Africa, this time in Mumbai, as they outplayed in every department again, losing by a mammoth 229 runs margin. Heinrich Klassen ran riot with a 67-ball 109 that shocked the English first before bowlers broke the back of the batting order, reducing them to 84 for seven at one stage, after which they never really recovered.
Proteas took the attack early on in the innings with Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen and Marco Jansen, all were classy with their half-centuries, powering their side to 399 after 50 overs.
Three Lions were never really in the chase, with wickets tumbling down like a pack of cards as Gerald Coetzee bagged three while Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen dismissed two batters apiece to bowl them out for 170.

Sri Lanka finally joined the party in the World Cup 2023 after they moved past the Netherlands challenge in Lucknow by five wickets, with Sadeera Samarawickrama's 91 taking his side over the line with ten balls to spare. Earlier in the day, Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha rocked the Dutch with four wickets each to bowl the opposition out for 262.
Batting first, the Netherlands had a shaky start with 91 for six, but a 130-run stand between Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) and Logan van Beek (59) for the seventh wicket pounced on the opportunity to score big.
Sri Lanka, in reply, were careful in saving their wickets and as they fought hard to chase the score down, considering they played steadily but slowly to ensure the game was in their hands. Pathum Nissanka starred with a half-century, while Charith Asalanka spent some time on the crease with 44.

Australia's solid openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scripted their victory in a dominable fashion as a 259-run partnership caused all sorts of problems for Pakistan, who lost their second consecutive match in the World Cup 2023 by a margin of 62 runs. The Aussies were pretty decent to start as they got timely boosts from the opposition in the form of dropped catches, propelling them to 367 after the end of 50 overs.
Warner's 163 conceded fourteen fours and nine sixes, whereas Marsh was quite impressive with 121, which contained ten boundaries and nine maximums. Bowlers were getting smashed all over the park except Shaheen Afridi, who recorded his third-fifer in ODI cricket.
In reply, Pakistan had a steady beginning too, but only to lose wickets on regular intervals, as Adam Zampa made their task quite strenuous, claiming four crucial scalps, which caused them to get bowled out for 305.

In another perfect game for India, who completely outplayed Bangladesh in Pune, Virat Kohli starred with his first century in World Cup 2023, where he racked up 103* to steal the show and help his side land a victory by seven wickets as they finished the game within 42 overs while chasing 257 on an outstanding batting pitch. The Tigers had a decent start, only to lose wickets in regular intervals in the middle phase, which turned out to be a reason for an under-par score.
Bangladeshi openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) took the mantle upon themselves to keep the bowlers under pressure as they kept founding boundaries. From 93 for no loss, they could only reach 256, mainly due to wickets.

Kiwis were clinical in the field as spinners and pacers combined to bowl out their opponents for 139 while chasing 289.
Batting first, New Zealand had a steady start to their innings with runs coming from Will Young, but some quick wickets in the middle caused problems. However, the duo of Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips stitched a 114-run partnership to propel their side to 288.

One of the biggest upsets of this cricket World Cup 2023 happened in Dharamsala, where the Netherlands side struck against the South African heavyweights, claiming a victory by 38 runs on a cold night. The star of the night was skipper Scott Edwards, who, alongside bowlers, performed brilliantly to reduce the Proteas effect to a bare minimum.
The Dutch batted first and posted 245 courtesy of 78* from Edwards and some late blows from Roelof van der Merwe and Aryan Dutt. They lost their first six wickets for 112 but recovered pretty well to post a daunting target on the board.
In reply, South Africa lost wickets early and were never really able to make a comeback in the game, which caused problems for them all along. Logan van Beek bagged three, whereas Paul van Meekeren, van der Merwe and Bas de Leede got two apiece to bowl them out for 207 in a 43-over per side game.

Australia finally opened their account in the World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka, where they attained a comfortable victory by five wickets, chasing 210 inside 36 overs. Thanks to Adam Zampa's impressive effort, where he bagged four big scalps, Sri Lanka suffered a major collapse from 125 for no loss to 209 all-out in Lucknow.
Pathum Nissanka (61) and Kusal Perera (78) provided a flying start to Island Nation, where they stitched a 125-run for the first wicket, but unfortunately, things went downhill after that. Spinners dominated in the middle phase as runs began to dry up, and eventually, they were bowled out inside 44 overs.
The Kangaroos had two hiccups early on in their innings, where they lost David Warner and Steve Smith in the fourth overs but recovered very well, courtesy of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis, who recorded their respective half-centuries.

In a shocking and unbelievable game in the World Cup 2023, Afghanistan successfully managed to conquer England in Delhi, thanks to the spin choke applied by Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi that caused the opposition's batting order to crumble under pressure as they eventually gave up on the score of 215, falling short by 69 runs.
Batting first, Afghanistan managed 284, with a significant contribution coming from opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (80) and an outstanding 58 from wicket-keeper Akram Alikhil. The English bowlers were always under pressure as the first wicket fell on 114, but some wickets in the middle pulled them back, however, a late surge from Afghan batters towards a decent total.
England, in return, seemed clueless against the spinners to whom they lost eight of their wickets with just Harry Brook crossing the fifty-run mark.
Result: Afghanistan won by 69 runs.

Bowlers' collective effort combined with skipper Rohit Sharma's powerful innings of 86 runs finished Pakistan's hopes as India claimed an outright victory by seven wickets with more than nineteen overs to spare in Ahmedabad. Pakistan were having a decent day until they lost their third wicket on the score of 155 and eventually, got bowled out for 191 as their last eight wickets fell for just 36 runs.
Every bowler apart from Shardul Thakur bagged two wickets each, which proved crucial for India, making the road difficult for their opponents. Captain Babar Azam was the only batter from the Pak side to touch the fifty-run mark.
In reply, the Men in Blue made every opportunity count as an attack by Rohit was followed by a calm innings by Shreyas Iyer, who finished the match with a boundary and recorded a half-century.
Result: India won by seven wickets.

A flawless victory, one might say, for New Zealand as they drubbed Bangladesh on an unusual bouncy wicket at Chepauk by eight wickets, all thanks to a vicious effort by pacer Lockie Ferguson, who bounced out the Tigers with his pace and Kane Williamson's mighty comeback to international cricket. Bangladesh put up 245 on the scorecard that was never going to be enough considering the ball wasn't turning square.
Mushfiqur Rahim was the lone half-centurion from the Bangladesh side, with skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad getting to 40s. Ferguson bagged three, while Trent Boult and Matt Henry chipped in with two each.
The Kiwis made the target look like a walk in the park as they made Bangladesh bowlers look ordinary by finishing the match with about seven overs to spare. Daryl Mitchell (89*) was fantastic alongside Kane Williamson (78*), the returning hero for the BlackCaps, who had to retire hurt after an unfortunate injury to his thumb.
Result: New Zealand won by eight wickets.

Undone by the spirit of Protea Fire, Australia were left stranded in the dark, first by Quinton de Kock's consecutive ton in the World Cup 2023, then by the bowlers who ran a rampage through the batting order led by pacer Kagiso Rabada. Scoring 311 on a decent batting strip, South Africa were aggressive right from the start, as de Kock's 109 with Aiden Markram's 56 boosted their hopes.
Their task was made easy by the sloppy fielding from the Aussies, who dropped catches like never before, as if they were having the worst day on the ground. Bowlers went for runs, and stopping the opposition seemed difficult for them.
Out chasing 312, the pitch all of a sudden had extra bounce, seam, spin, swing and everything they did not ask for that made the ball look unplayable, for the most part of it. Kangaroos couldn't hold themselves further, getting bowled out for 177, losing by a massive margin of 134 runs.
Result: South Africa won by 134 runs.

Rohit Sharma brought his A-game in Delhi against Afghanistan in World Cup 2023, where he took every bowler to the cleaners, smashing a 63-ball hundred, taking India to victory by eight wickets in 35 overs with the help of Virat Kohli. Along the way, Rohit achieved a plethora of records, including hundreds in the Cricket World Cup and most sixes in International cricket.
Afghanistan opted to bat first and, with the help of skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai, who racked up their respective half-centuries, reached a respectable total of 272. Jasprit Bumrah bagged four wickets on a flat deck that dented the Afghan side in the middle overs from posting an even bigger total.
In the end, Rohit's masterclass 131 was enough to take India home, with Ishan Kishan's 47 and Kohli's 55 doing their jobs decently.

Highest chase in World Cup history, Pakistan made a world record by getting 345 against Sri Lanka, thanks to remarkable tons from Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan, who overpowered centuries from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. The track that was suitable for batting saw 689 runs getting scored in the game, with wickets being challenging to manage in the second half.
Sri Lanka batted first and smashed 344 with ease, as Mendis' 140 and Samarawickrama's 108 made it look quite incredible. However, things changed in the next 50 overs as Pakistani batters came with a clear determination to dominate the opposition.
Shafique (113) held the one end from the start, while Rizwan (131*) ensured no further wickets fell after they were two down for 37 early on. The latter went on to finish the game with ten balls to spare and six wickets in spare.
Result: Pakistan won by six wickets.

Mr Consistent Dawid Malan did what he is known for against Bangladesh as he disturbed their bowling line-up with a classy 140 that was enough to get his side England over the line by 137 runs in the seventh match of the World Cup 2023. The Three Lions wreaked havoc with 364 on the board, with Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root playing their part to reach the mammoth total.
In reply, the Bangla Tigers were left wondering with many questions to answer as left-arm pacer Reece Topley, especially brought in for the match, bagged a four-fer to roll them over for 227.
Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim starred with their half-centuries, but it was never going to be enough. On the bowling front, Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam dismissed four and three batters, respectively, but with a higher economy rate.
Result: England won by 137 runs.

Powered by Mitchell Santner's all-round show of 36 runs and five wickets, New Zealand outplayed the Netherlands by 99 runs. Kiwis smashed 322 runs courtesy of fifties from Will Young, Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham, alongside some valuable contributions from Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway.
The Dutch, in reply, felt vulnerable to the line and length of Matt Henry, who bagged three wickets before Santner wreaked havoc with his left-arm orthodox, dismissing five batters. The Netherlands side were eventually bowled out for 223 with just Colin Ackermann crossing the fifty-run mark, as they succumbed to their second continuous defeat.
As for the BlackCaps, two wins in two seems to be the right thing for them, even after they are without their regular skipper, Kane Williamson.

Chennai witnessed high-class action in the fifth game of the World Cup 2023 between India and Australia, where the hosts emerged victorious by six wickets courtesy of a solid partnership between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. India were stunned early in their chase of 200 when their top three batters were dismissed for a duck, with the team reeling at 2/3 after the second over.
However, resistance from the Kohli-Rahul duo meant that India's task that looked like a challenge at one stage was finished without much sweat, thanks to their solid 165-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Australia batted first and lost the plot early on in their innings as even after a decent stand between David Warner and Steven Smith, they found themselves in trouble, mainly because spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav destroyed their core with six wickets among themselves.
Result: India won by six wickets.

A record-breaking match in the history of the Cricket World Cup, South Africa versus Sri Lanka ended up as the game with the highest runs in a WC match ever, where the Proteas emerged victorious by a massive margin of 102 runs. Three Centuries from the African camp were enough to seal the deal as Delhi witnessed a game for the ages.
Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram utilised the short boundaries to maximum effect as runs were flowing left, right and centre, taking them to a mammoth total of 428.
In return, half-centuries from Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka and skipper Dasun Shanaka could only help them to 326, which proved to be far away from the target despite being a decent total.
Result: South Africa won by 102 runs.

Played in the beautiful hill setting of Himachal's Dharamsala, Bangladesh outplayed their counterparts Afghanistan by six wickets, thanks to an all-round contribution from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 57 runs and picked up three wickets. Afghanistan had complete control over their innings until the 25th over when wickets started falling in clusters, causing them to collapse from 112 for 2 to 156 all out.
Alongside Miraz, skipper Shakib al Hasan did his job wonderfully with three wickets as well, helping to dent the opposition. From the Afghan side, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a fine knock of 47 runs, but insufficient it was.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, had a calming end to the game, with both Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto notching up their half-centuries to finish the chase inside 35 overs.
Result: Bangladesh won by six wickets.

Bas de Leede's overall contribution, where he picked up four wickets and scored 67 runs with six fours and two sixes, proved ineffective as Pakistan ran home with a victory by 81 runs.
