It’s the second doubleheader day of this World Cup. In the first match of the day, two Asian sides - Pakistan Women and Bangladesh Women - will be squaring off against each other at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Both the teams are yet to win a game and are at the bottom of the table. However, Bangladesh has a slightly better net run rate, just above Pakistan.
Women in Green, who have lost in all three matches, will try to earn a couple of essential points from this match. After surrendering to the opponents in the first two matches, they gave a tough fight for the South African Women's side. However, chasing down 224, they fell short by just six runs in a last-over thriller.
Pakistan have bowled decently in this tournament but hasn’t restricted the opponents to a manageable score. Unfortunately, their batters haven’t replicated the performances of their bowlers, which cost them the match. They will re-think their batting before this game and find a solution as they need to get up from the last position in the points table.
Skipper Bismah Maroof, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Nida Dar, and Omaima Sohail are the players on whom Pakistan’s team will heavily rely on doing the bulk of the job.
The Bangla Tigresses have nothing to lose and can earn experience and positivity from the ongoing World Cup. Though they have lost, they fought hard and had the matches in control. However, they lack experience playing at this level.
They have a side to cause an upset or, should I say to win the game. Skipper Nigar Sultana, Rumana Ahmed and Shamima Sultana are the ones on whom there are high expectations from Bangladesh fans. On the other hand, Jahanara Alam and Fariha Trisna are doing well in the ongoing World Cup and are expected to trouble the Pakistan Women side.
They have recently met in the warm-up games where Bangladesh Women’s came close and lost it by just seven runs (DLS). Fargana Hoque with her 71 for Bangla Tigresses, while Aliya Riaz (45 off 50)* and Fatima Sana (4 wickets) were the Pakistan Women’s team stars. So it should be another close contest between these sides.
