In a do-or-die encounter England Women will lock horns with Pakistan Women at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 24, 2022. This will be the first time that Christchurch is hosting a game in this World Cup.

The defending champions are in fifth place with four points and have to win their remaining games to have a slight chance of qualifying for the semis. On the other hand Pakistan are tottering at the last spot and have already crashed out of the tournament. Having won just a solitary game in the entire competition, the team from Asia will look to bow out on a high.

The English side have had a horror start to the tournament but they have done well in their last two matches to bring things under their control. They are fresh from a thrilling victory against the New Zealand Women as they held their nerves and eased past the winning line with one wicket in hand.

The Heather Knight led side have some issues to deal with especially, in their lower-order batting. Adding to the woes, their openers have failed to set solid platforms on a regular basis. Barring Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver, the batting lineup has failed miserably and as a result England are on the verge of a shock exit from the tournament.

Pakistan Women, on the other hand are coming off after causing an upset. They were able to dominate the West Indies Women side in a rain shortened game. It was their first win, breaking their four match losing streak. They have nothing to lose and will be looking to pull the other teams down.

The Bismah Maroof led side will try to finish this competition on a high as they wouldn’t want to finish last in two consecutive World Cups. The players have performed well in bits and pieces but have failed to capitalize on crucial moments.

Can England get a much needed win to keep their campaign alive? Or Will Pakistan cause yet another major upset? Only time will tell.
