  • I Was Like A Big Brother To Him Faf Opens Up On His Relationship With Ruturaj Gaikwad

'I was like a big brother to him' - Faf opens up on his relationship with Ruturaj Gaikwad

As soon as the Mega-Auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 came to a close, players started expressing gratitude towards their former franchises.

South African stalwart Faf du Plessis, who had a decade-long relationship with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), also shared a heartfelt message for the 'Yellow Army'. The Protea legend will now be seen donning the red and blacks of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as the franchise acquired his services for the upcoming IPL seasons.

Sharing a video story on his official Instagram account, Du Plessis thanked CSK for their constant support in his IPL journey so far.

"I just wanted to do a quick video message to say thank you to Chennai, the fans, the staff, the management and players for it has been a decade with one team," Du Plessis said on his Instagram story.

"You create a lot of special memories. I think it's really important for me to say thank you. I've really enjoyed my time a lot. I will really miss everyone there. But as one door closes, a new one opens up and that comes up with great opportunities. I'm excited to see what the future holds. From me and my family, thank you very much," he added.

Chennai Super Kings shared Faf's video on Twitter with the hashtag 'SuperKingForever'.  The Chennai-based franchise intended to retain the retired cricketer in the mega auction but did commit beyond INR 3.20 crore as the 37-year-old eventually landed in RCB.

In an interaction on Revsportz, the right-handed batter shared a bit on his bonding with former teammate and opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad.

"It was a special relationship with Ruturaj Gaikwad in CSK. I was like a big brother to him. He’s super talented and got a bright future ahead, I gonna miss opening the batting with him," the former Proteas captain mentioned.

This will be the first time Faf will play under any other captain other than MS Dhoni in IPL. Du Plessis has been in sensational form in the ongoing season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

AUS vs SL | Hasaranga-less Sri Lanka in a precarious position in 3rd T20I

Sri Lanka all rounder and one of the most expensive overseas buys in the recently hosted Indian Premier League mega Auction - Wanindu Hasaranga did not feature in the third T20I between Australia and Sri Lanka. It was reported in the early hours of Canberra T20I that Hasranga had tested positive for the virus on Rapid Antigen Test and has since been in isolation. He is the third positive test result in the Sri Lanka camp at the moment after Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando. With a seven day isolation period set for all Covid cases, Hasaranga is in line to miss the entire T20I series which still have two matches to be played and gets wrapped up on 20 February in Melbourne. Alongside him Fernando will be also be missing the fourth game, but might return to play the last one in Melbourne. Kusal Mendis though, was available for selection in today’s game but scored only four runs off 11 deliveries, before chipping one to Ashton Agar who was bowling from the other end. Sri Lanka found it very difficult to score against the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Kane Richardson who kept maintaining the off stump line throughout their bowling spell. Richardson reaped the rewards of Hazlewood's pressure in his very first over edging back Charith Asalanka. He has picked up two more since then. At the time of writing, Sri Lanka are in a precarious position having scored 69 runs or the loss of four wickets in 14 overs. Sri Lanka are down by 0-2 in the T20I series at the moment.
