I was disappointed: Suryakumar Yadav on India snub

Suryakumar Yadav, the prolific run hitter from Mumbai who showed what things he is capable of doing with the bat in this season’s Indian Premier League admitted that he was totally disappointed after not being able to find his name in the Indian squad bound for Australia.

“Frankly, I was expecting to be selected this time. I was a bit disappointed when I found my name missing. I couldn’t even train that day and it was difficult to take my mind off from that dejection. Even Rohit (Sharma) asked me if I was disappointed and I told him I was,” the 30-year old told Hindustan Times.

However, he is hopeful that if he keeps on performing there is no doubt that he will get a national call-up soon.  “But never mind. I will wait for my chances. There is a lot of time to show my cricket abilities and make my case stronger for a national call-up. I hope I can score big in domestic games and then do well in the next IPL to catch the attention of the selectors,” Yadav, who became the first uncapped player to hit 2000 runs in IPL history said.

Apart from his performances, Yadav also came into the limelight for his stare down with Indian captain Virat Kohli during a match between his Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In that game, the top-order batsman hit 79 of 43 balls to take his team to victory in an encounter which was crucial for both teams.

But during his innings, Kohli tried to bully him with his overpowering attitude, to which Yadav reacted in an even powerful manner after getting his team to the victory. However, the Mumbai man said that it was all on the field and both the players laughed it off, afterwards.

“It was all very instinctive. Virat Kohli is a huge cricketing figure and he plays the game very aggressively. It was an important game for both teams and whatever happened, it did during the game. After the game, we laughed about it and he congratulated me on my batting,” Yadav explained.

“Virat’s brand of cricket is top class and the way he dominates world cricket is just amazing. I too look up to him. In the end, it was great to win the game,” added the batsman who scored 480 runs in 15 innings at an average of 40 and a strike rate of more than 145.

Glenn Maxwell brush past Sehwag’s ‘10 Crore’s Cheerleader' comment

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has brushed aside former Indian cricketer Virender Shewag’s unruly comment calling him a ’10 Crore’s Cheerleader’ who had come to the Indian Premier League on ‘paid vacation’. Maxwell said that he is aware of Sehwag’s dislike of him. "It's ok. Viru is pretty outspoken with his dislike of me, and that's fine. He's allowed to say whatever he likes,” The West Australian quoted the 32-year-old as saying. He further made downweighed the Multan’s Sultan’s comments saying he is in the media for making such comments only. "He's in the media for such statements, so that's fine. I deal with that and move on, and take it with a grain of salt with Sehwag.” Maxwell didn’t actually have a great IPL as he was only able to make 113 runs in 11 innings and was unable to hit even a single six this entire season. The Victorian played under KL Rahul’s captaincy and rates him very highly. Talking to cricket.com.au, he praised Rahul saying that he was 'gun’ during the IPL. He's a great performer … got a great temperament, great head on his shoulders, and is extremely calm in pressure situations,” Maxwell said. Since it’s hard to get Rahul out otherwise, Maxwell said that he and his team would like to get him run out. "We had a team meeting the other day and they came to me and asked how I thought we should get him out, and one of the things I said was to try and run him out. So I think that's what we're going to try and do,” he said.
