I think the time has come: DJ Bravo decides to hang his boots for West Indies post the T20 World Cup

It was sad to see that a pure legend of the game decided to hang his boots from international T20Is on a losing note and that too in a World Cup. Dwayne Bravo, the West Indies all-rounder announced after the team’s loss against Sri Lanka in the Super 12 that he would be playing his last game in the maroon against Australia on November 06 as he has decided to call it quits from the international cricket post the T20 World Cup 2021.

Announcing his retirement in the post-match discussion on the ICC broadcast, Bravo said, “I think the time has come. I’ve had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long.”

Standing alongside Daren Sammy who was part of the commentary team, Bravi further said, "To win three ICC trophies, two with my captain on the left here. One thing I am proud about is that in the era of cricketers we had we were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stage and not only do that but have silverware to show for it."

The 38-year-old, who started out for West Indies in 2004 has ended up as a two time T20 World Cup winner and a Champions Trophy winner as well. Bravo has so far played 90 T20Is, taking 78 wickets and scoring more than 1000 runs in them for the West Indies.

Asked about what the future holds for the great man, the Trinidadian said, "For me now I want to try and pass on whatever experience and information I have with the younger players," he said.

"I think in the white-ball formats West Indies cricket have a bright future and it's important for us to keep supporting the guys and keep encouraging them,” he added.

Although the defending champions bowed out of the tournament, Bravo said that the team should hold its head high because they have been beaten by better teams. "It wasn't the World Cup we expected, it wasn't the World Cup we wanted as players. We shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves, it was a tough competition, we should keep our heads high,” he said.

New Zealand select spin-heavy squad for India Test series; Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme opt out

New Zealand have picked the trio of experienced spinners Ajaz Patel, Will Somerville and Mitchell Santner for the Test series against India starting in November 2021. Youngsters such as Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips have also been named in the BLACKCAPS squad who will begin their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) defence on the tour of India. The 15-strong squad will be led by skipper Kane Williamson in the two Tests scheduled to take place in Kanpur from November 25-29, and Mumbai from December 3-7. Since Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme made themselves unavailable for selection, Glen Phillips was selected for the first time in a Test squad since debuting for the Kiwis in Sydney Test against Australia in 2020 when most of the squad was down with illness and the xi had to be completed with reserve players. New Zealand coach, Gary Stead, while commenting on the unavailability of Boult said, “Trent has already spent the best part of 60 days in hard managed isolation this year, while Colin had been on the road since May until recently returning home from Pakistan.” “From talking to both players it was clear the best option for them was to be left out of this Test tour and for them to instead focus on being ready for the New Zealand home summer,” he added. The New Zealand based Test players depart for India on Monday, November 8 at 6 pm. The New Zealand tour of India would however begin with three T20Is on November 17, 19 and 21 and the current T20 World Cup squad of the Kiwis will play in it. Ryan ten Doeschate to mentor the Netherlands to their tour of South Africa

Just as Ryan Campbell, the Netherlands coach had predicted at the time of Dutch superstar Ryan ten Doeschate’s retirement that he would soon be taking the former’s place, the latter has started his journey towards fulfilling that prediction as he has been named as the mentor of the Netherlands side for their tour to South Africa. The Orange brigade will play three ODIs as part of the ICC World Cup Super League 2023, which will decide the direct qualification of seven teams for the 2023 ODI World Cup to be played in India. The top seven teams in the 13 team league will qualify for the World Cup alongside hosts India and the remaining five teams will undergo a qualifier where the top two teams will make it to the 10-team World Cup. The Dutch team, which is the only Associate member in the league and beat Ireland in their only series so far, will be playing three ODIs at the Supersport Park in Centurion on November 26, 28 and December 01 respectively. South Africa born and raised Roelof van der Merwe, Colin Ackermann and Stephan Myvurgh will be part of the Dutch squad that will visit the rainbow nation for the first time for a bilateral international series. However other key players such as Australia born Ben Cooper, Tobias Visee and Paul van Meekeren will not be part of the squad as they asked not to be considered for personal reasons. To compensate for them the coach included three uncapped players in 20-year-old Boris Gorlee, Pakistan-born Musa Ahmed and Clayton Floyd, who recently scored a century at the European Cricket Championships. Netherlands squad Pieter Seelaar (capt), Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Vivian Kingma, Max O'Dowd, Scott Edwards, Boris Gorlee, Clayton Floyd, Musa Ahmed, Brandon Glover, Fred Klaassen, Roelof van der Merwe, Saqib Zulfiqar, Stephan Myburgh, Shane Snater, Timm van der Gugten
