“I haven’t received any communication from the BCCI yet” – Wriddhiman Saha

The experienced Indian wicket-keeper batter, Wriddhiman Saha has been in the news in recent times ever since he has allegedly claimed of getting threatened by a famous journalist. However, he has decided not to reveal the name of the journalist to the BCCI, when the cricket board will communicate with him over his tweet that has become arguably one of the biggest talking points right now.

On Monday, The Indian Express reported that the BCCI would ask him to reveal the identity of the unnamed person who has sent a string of WhatsApp messages to the cricketer, demanding an interview. Saha later shared a screenshot of the messages on his official Twitter handle.

“I haven’t received any communication from the BCCI yet. If they ask me to reveal the name (of the journalist), I would tell them it was never my intention to harm somebody’s career, to pull a person down. That’s why I didn’t reveal the name in my tweet. That’s not the teaching of my parents. The main purpose of my tweet was to expose the fact that there’s someone in the media who does such things, disrespecting a player’s wish,” Wriddhiman Saha told The Indian Express.

He further added, “It wasn’t fair, which I wanted to tell through my tweets. He who has done it knows it very well. I posted those tweets because I didn’t want the players to face such things. I wanted to convey the message that what has been done was wrong and no one else should do it again.”

On Saturday, the 37-year-old was dropped from the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home. And, he tweeted on the same, stating, “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so called “Respected” journalist! This is where journalism has gone.” One of the messages from the unnamed reporter had stated: “You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don’t take insults kindly. And I will remember this.”

However, Wriddhiman Saha has received a lot of support from the cricketing fraternity after this – be it Ravi Shastri or Virender Sehwag. Shastri, the former India team head coach, in fact, asked BCCI president Sourav Ganguly “to dive in” as well.

Saha, however, said that he didn’t have any conversation with Sourav Ganguly over the last few days. Meanwhile, former India spinner Pragyan Ojha, currently the Indian Cricketers Association’s (ICA) representative on the IPL Governing Council, called him too.

“Ojha called me and said, ‘I won’t ask you about anything which is personal. If you feel that you want to go further on this or pursue the matter legally, the BCCI would support you’. I told him that at the moment I wasn’t willing and gave him the reasons. He responded to it saying, it was completely my decision,” Saha concluded.

Did not expect this from Faulkner: Mohammad Hafeez wants action against allrounder

Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has come down heavily against Australian James Faulkner over the recent controversy in the Pakistan Super League. The right hander who played alongside Faulkner in the previous season of the PSL gave an emotional interview to Samaa TV stating that the whole situation really hurt him as a Pakistani. “...the way we take care of our overseas player and respect them, I haven’t seen that in any part of the world. That is why it hurt, especially because I was not expecting this from Faulkner. Last year we played a season together and I found him very professional. ” PSL 2022 - which is entering its final strides of the season, blew up on February 19 with the Australian all rounder making allegations against the Pakistan Cricket Board. He explained that the PCB chose not to honour his contractual agreements and the board’s treatment of him has been disgraceful. PCB took a while to respond to the allegations and called the cricketer a liar on social media platform Twitter. They argued that in the seven years of the competition not a single player has ‘ever complained about the non fulfilment of PCB’s contractual obligations’ and broke down the specifics of the money transfer. The board further went to allege that Faulkner had deliberately damaged the hotel property for which the PCB had to pay out of its own pockets. Hafeez seemed to tow the same line and stated, “…in the last seven seasons, I haven’t heard a single complaint from a Pakistani cricketer or an overseas player on financial concerns. I feel the allegations were wrong on Pakistan cricket and PCB must take an action on it.” At the moment, the PCB is on schedule for its final stretch with Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United preparing for the playoffs clashes that begin on Wednesday, 23 February.
