I deserved a farewell match: S Sreesanth

S Sreesanth will always remain one of the most controversial figures in Indian cricket. He came into the team as an express pace bowler whose aggression was as dangerous as his speed. The batters feared him not only for his wicket-taking ability but also for his aggression on the field. 


He was one of the few players to be a part of the T20I and ODI winning World Cup teams for India. He played a key role in both the championship wins and was expected to become one of the stars for India going ahead. However, a fixing scandal during the IPL saw the player receiving a ban from playing competitive cricket.


After playing a few domestic games the speedster recently announced his retirement from all cricket. However, the controversial figure has once again passed a comment which would lead to a debate. Sreesanth revealed in an interview with Manorama that he deserved a farewell match to end his domestic career.


“I was looking forward to playing the match against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. In the team meeting ahead of the game, I had made it clear that it would be my last match for Kerala. I believe I deserved a farewell match,” he expressed.


He claimed that he was denied a farewell game by the Kerala association which led to a huge stir on social media. A player who had contributed as much as Sreesanth definitely deserved a good end to his career.


Sreesanth had earlier expressed his desire to play in the IPL and had given his name for the IPL as well, however, he went unsold in the auction. He said that he was very well capable of playing but did not want to take up a youngster's spot. ”I can still bowl at 132 Kmph consistently. I can bowl as quickly as any 19-year-old bowler. However, I do not want to eat up the place of a deserving youngster,” he told.


Sreesanth also revealed that he was open to playing franchise based leagues and did not wish to completely disassociate himself from the game. For the time being though he will look to focus on his acting career. 


“I am open to playing franchise-based leagues across the world. I have received some coaching offers too. Also, I want to focus on my film career,” he concluded.

MCC Women to visit Ireland for white-ball series in July

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Women's team will visit Ireland for a two-match white-ball series in July. They will take on against Ireland Women's Select XI and Leinster President's XI with Irish players featuring on both sides of the contest. Up to three Irish players are expected to feature in the MCC squad. "MCC Ireland have had men's tours for a long time, and so it felt that now was the right time to request a women's tour with the national side in the ICC Women's Championship," Ed Joyce, Head Coach of Ireland Women, told Lord's official website. "We are grateful to everyone at MCC Ireland, Cricket Leinster, and the MCC itself for making this tour happen," he added. "These games are set to be more high-quality fixtures for some of our players - the more games and experiences like this our players have, the better. We'll select the Ireland Women's Select XI squad closer to the time. Still, the squad will likely feature a mixture of players from the senior performance squad and our younger development squad." He further opined how more quality games could be better for the squad. "I would certainly love if this tour could become a regular feature of the calendar. As I said before, the more quality games we get for our High-Performance squads annually, the better, in my opinion. Hopefully, we could make it a longer trip in future!" "The MCC Women's section is very excited by this opportunity to play an Irish side this year – and we hope to welcome three Irish players into our ranks for these matches. Women's cricket in Ireland is improving year-on-year, and we hope this can become an annual feature of our playing calendar," Kari Carswell, Head of Women's Cricket at the MCC, quoted. "Women's cricket globally is on the rise and I see these sorts of tours as providing positive experiences to those involved – on both sides, and giving people lots of opportunities to fulfil their potential," Carswell concluded.

In the 2021-22 Marsh Cup final, Western Australia all-rounder Hilton Cartwright displayed wonderful athleticism by holding on to a blinder to get rid of New South Wales captain Moises Henriques. D'Arcy Short was bowling in the 45th over of the innings when Henriques came down the pitch and muscled the ball flat and hard towards the straight long-on area. It seemed as if Henriques had struck the ball pretty well for a maximum but Cartwright's extraordinary piece of athleticism left everyone stunned. He ran about 10 yards to his left and leapt horizontally, taking a brilliant catch to leave Henriques and others in awe. The catch was pivotal when it comes to the situation of the game as Henriques was threatening to take the game away from the Western Australians. However, Cartwright changed the course of the match with his acrobatic screamer, eventually helping his team win the match as well as the tournament. Watch the video below: Western Australia came out victorious against New South Wales in the final of the Marsh Cup by a margin of 18 runs. The Perth based team batting first piled up 225 runs on the board with Jhye Richardson being their highest run-getter by scoring 44 of 64 balls. They lost 9 wickets in the process. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa and left-arm pacer Daniel Sams bagged three wickets each to restrict them to a chasable total. Unfortunately for NSW, they faced a batting collapse as they were bowled out for 207 with Moises Henriques top-scoring with a 75-ball 43. Right-arm speedster Andrew Tye put on a brilliant show with the ball by picking up a four-wicket haul for his team. Aaron Hardie bowled pretty well for his three wickets. Tye was adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his brilliant performance with the ball while Matt Renshaw walked away with the 'Player of the Tournament' award for piling 377 runs in the multilateral series.
