How Cummins not replying to a message saved these two Aussies from sitting out of Adelaide Test

Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon, two of Australia's most experienced bowlers were in danger of missing out on the Adelaide Test along with their captain Pat Cummins.

It was only a lucky escape for these two players as their skipper didn’t choose to reply to their message, which they had sent after arriving at the same restaurant in Adelaide and on seeing him dining there. This happened on the eve of the second Test.

And it was only hours before the start of play on Day-1 of the Adelaide Test that Cummins was identified as a close contact of a Covid-positive case, who sat on a table next to him at the restaurant.

Talking about the situation, Starc said, “It was just fortunate we were sitting outside. That was almost a bit of a p*sstake because Pat didn’t reply to our message, so we thought we’d sit away from him and sit outside. So it was a bit lucky.”

Though Starc wasn’t much worried about after visiting a restaurant that had Covid positive person dining inside, he said that Lyon was. “Spinner didn’t sleep. I slept quite fine, there wasn’t much I could do about it after,” said Starc in a chat with reporters.

Both Starc and Lyon played the game and led the Australian attack, stepping up to the occasion in the absence of Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
