Indian captain Rohit Sharma has said that he has no issues in playing all the games in the near future and that he will only take a break from bubble life, when he feels necessary.
Last week, Rohit replaced Virat Kohli as Test skipper to become the all-format captain of Team India. Following the development, there were concerns around his workload management given the fact that he will soon be 35 and has struggled with recurring injuries in the last 24 months.
Speaking to the media ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka in Lucknow, Sharma said, "At the moment, I have no issues and looking forward to playing all the games. The workload always depends on what happens thereafter and you take day by day and understand what you do and if a break is needed, you take a break and someone else comes in.
"You see how the other guy can fill in, what sort of potential he has. At the moment, it seems to be okay," he added.
The much-awaited Ranji Trophy got underway last week and Rohit believes its a perfect opportunity for the Indian internationals like Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill etc to stake their claim in the starting XI by scoring truckloads of runs in the First-Class tournament.
"All I can tell them is keep scoring runs and the opportunity will arise as it has for (Hanuma) Vihari and Shreyas Iyer, Shubhman Gill and all those guys, who are part of the test team now,” Rohit said.
“A lot of these guys, I know, you got to keep scoring runs, you got yo to keep your head down and keep doing your job, that is what I can tell them at the moment and that is all we can expect them also to do," he added.
"All these guys who have got an opportunity to play Ranji Trophy, I am very happy that they at least got to play the Ranji Trophy, which is the most critical from their perspective. I hope we see more and more performances in the next two games as well,” he said.
India will take on Lanka in a three-match T20I series from February 24. The Men in Blue have already beaten New Zealand and the West Indies 3-0 in the 2021/22 home summer, and will look to make a hat-trick of whitewashes when they take on the 2014 world champions.
