Harmanpreet Kaur tests positive for COVID-19

India women’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms. The right-handed batter who missed the T20I series against South Africa at home after getting injured during the fifth ODI got tested herself after having mild fever.

A source close to the cricketer told PTI that she is got tested herself and the result of the tests came out to be positive. The source further added that the batter is self-isolating at home.

“She is self-isolating at home. She got tested yesterday and the report came positive today morning. She had mild fever since four days so thought it was best to get tested. She is doing fine otherwise and should recover soon,” a source close to the player told PTI.

“She was getting tested regularly during the South Africa series so she must have caught the virus after that only,” the source added.

Kaur took to Twitter and wrote,”Unfortunately, I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am feeling ok and have quarantined myself by following all the guidelines advised by the authorities and my doctors.”

“By god’s grace and your well wishes, I will be back on the field soon. I urge you to all wear masks and stay safe,” she added.

Jofra Archer suffered freakish injury before India tour; played with piece of fish tank in his finger

England star pacer Jofra Archer struggled with a prominent elbow injury on the tour of India but it has now come out in the open that the pacer was also nursing a freakish injury in his hand. However, the injury did not impact his game and possibly, did not force him to sit out of games against India. Talking on BBC's Tuffers and Vaughan, England’s Director revealed the details about Archer’s finger injury that occurred before the tour of India. Archer dropped his fish tank at his home in the UK and while cleaning up the mess, cut his hand. When he returned from the tour, he went to a specialist feeling a stiff finger due to a prolonged wound albeit a closed one. "This is going to sound like an awful conspiracy and I can see what's going happen on Twitter as soon as I say this. "But, yeah, he was cleaning at home. He's got a fish tank. He dropped the fish tank, cut his hand, and he's been in surgery today,” Gile said on the Tuffers and Vaughan show. "He's come out of it well. It was managed through India, he was treated when he arrived and it wasn't an open wound on that finger. It didn't stop him playing, but given he came home for an injection on his elbow, he went to a specialist because the finger was still a bit stiff. Revealing gruesome details about the injury and its management, Giles said that there was a piece of glass left in Archer’s finger wound and that the pacer got to know only after coming back to India and visiting a specialist. "They've operated and I think they found a small fragment of glass still in attendance. It obviously healed but there was part of the fish tank still in his finger. So, it was the right thing to do. We've got a clear window to do it as well. We wish him the best for his recovery but it's true, it's not a conspiracy,” Giles added. Notably, Jofra Archer suffered from a recurrent elbow injury that ruled him out of two out of four Tests against India. He went to play the entire length of the T20I series before missing out on the entire ODI series to assess his elbow and also the freakish injury in his finger. Now, the chances of him playing in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is in serious jeopardy.

Would be keen in leading Australia again if the opportunity comes up: Steve Smith

Former Australia captain Steve Smith has shown interest in leading the national side again if given an opportunity. Smith was sacked from the captaincy after the famous “sandpaper-gate” scandal in Cape Town in March 2018. The wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine has been donning the captain’s hat in Tests since then. “I’ve certainly had a lot of time to think about it and I guess now I’ve got to a point where if the opportunity did come up again, I would be keen,” Smith told News Corp. “If it was what Cricket Australia wanted and it was what was best for the team at the time, it’s certainly something I would be interested in now, that’s for sure.” Smith further added that he would have to live with the controversy no matter if he leads the Australian team again or not in his career. “I’m always going to have to live with Cape Town regardless of whether I lead again or not. It’s always there,” Smith said. The right-handed batsman also said that he would continue to support the person in charge in the same way he supports Paine and Finch even if he doesn’t get the captaincy again in future. “If it doesn’t, that’s fine as well and I’d support whoever is in charge the same way I’ve supported Tim and Finchy. I haven’t always felt like I wanted to do it again. That’s only come in the last little bit,” he further added. Smith has played 77 Tests for Australia scoring 7540 runs at an average of 61.8.
