  • Hardik Will Be Considered For India Selection When He Is 100 Per Cent Match Fit Chetan Sharma

"Hardik will be considered for India selection when he is 100 per cent match fit": Chetan Sharma

BCCI Chairman of Selectors Chetan Sharma confirmed that only fully-fit Hardik Pandya will be considered for India selection.

During the team announcement for the multi-format Sri Lanka series, Sharma was asked about Hardik's possible comeback in the blue jersey. The chief selector gave an update on the all-rounder's return to the national setup, saying he has not attained 100 per cent match fitness yet.

For the unversed, Hardik's fitness has been under the scanner for quite some time now as the 28-year-old suffered a back injury in 2018. His awful outings in the last T20 World Cup added to his woes.

"Hardik was definitely a very important part of the Indian team. After these injuries I would say that when we are convinced that he is 100 per cent match fit, ready to go and if he is bowling, he will definitely be considered," the former India all-rounder informed on Saturday.

Hardik opted out of the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy. Sharma emphasised that the selectors will give more weight to the players' performance in the domestic red-ball tournament.

"You can ask Hardik why he is not playing Ranji Trophy. We are looking at those who are playing the Ranji Trophy and performing there. So we feel happy to watch the competition and see the boys perform," Sharma added.

Hardik will mark his return to competitive cricket in the upcoming Indian Premier League edition and will be in charge of the newly-formed Gujarat-based franchise.

Lahore Qalandars registered a thumping 66-run win against Islamabad United in Lahore. Chasing 198, the United were restricted to 131/9 in 20 overs. The Islamabad side never really got going and lost wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 100/6 before suffering the defeat. Liam Dawson top-scored with 31 off 26 while Danish Aziz remained unbeaten at 30 off 26. For Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi, Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan picked up a couple of wickets each with Rashid being the pick of the bowlers after he returned with figures of 2/19 in 4 overs. Earlier, in the day, the Lahore side had a struggling start to the proceedings as they were left tottering at 12/3 but Fakhar Zaman along with Harry Brook steadied the ship for the side and provided the resistance. The two batters stitched a stand of 101 runs for the fourth wicket before Zaman was out for 51 off 41. But Brook on the other side, continued with his aggressive batting as he notched up a century and remained not out for a 49-ball 102 which included five maximums and 10 fours during the course to help the side post 197/6 in 20 overs. Faheem Ashraf picked up three wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs. "Lahore have taken good care of me. I am so happy with the love. I wish them all the very best for the rest of the competition. It makes me happy that I am leaving the team with us on the top. It is a wonderful family. It was about playing our natural game. We had a bad night yesterday. It was about enjoying your game," Rashid said after the match.
