The Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes-era started with a bang, with England notching up Test wins over New Zealand and India. While they did suffer a blip after South Africa handed them a crushing defeat in the Lord's Test, the hosts hit back by winning the Manchester Test and once again proving their belief in 'BazBall' approach.

Former England player Graham Gooch has advocated this new approach under coach McCullum and captain Stokes.

The 69-year-old batter, who is England's third-highest Test run-scorer behind Sir Alastair Cook and Joe Root, maintained that an ultra-aggressive game is a must if red-ball cricket has to thrive in an era of T20 cricket.

"I am in favour of attacking intent to win the game and to play attractive cricket. You have got to put the emphasis on trying to push the game in your direction, you have got to make the difference and keep setting the agenda,"

I am really impressed with England because we are playing cricket with intent. You go out there and try to win a match from ball one. You go out there with every player having the attitude of wanting to influence the match," Gooch told DailyMail.
