Glamorgan have suffered a slew of injuries just days before the start of their T20 Blast season. Timm van der Gugten, Ruaidhri Smith, and Eddie Byrom have all been forced to miss games due to injuries, while David Lloyd has a chest infection.


The Welsh club's season begins on May 26 against Sussex Sharks in Hove. However, they will be without several key players. The hamstring rupture suffered by Timm van der Gugten during the County Championship is the most significant of the problems.


The Dutchman will miss the entire group stage of the T20 Blast, the County Championship trip to Worcestershire in late June, and a block of red-ball fixtures beginning in mid-July after being ruled out for eight to ten weeks.


Ruaidhri Smith, who suffered a side strain against Warwickshire, will also miss the start of the 20-over competition. His four-to-six-week prognosis means he'll miss the start of the campaign and may not be able to compete again until the final week of the group stage.


Eddie Byrom has not played this season due to minor surgery, but a hip flexor ailment has forced him to wait until the visit of Essex Eagles on June 2 to return.


Meanwhile, Captain David Lloyd has been diagnosed with a chest infection following the Championship defeat to Durham, but he is likely to play against Sussex next week.

'Expectation is 3-0 but it won't be easy': WI assistant coach Roddy Estwick

West Indies assistant coach Roddy Estwick has stressed the importance of his team not taking anything for granted heading into the Cricket World Cup Super League series against the Netherlands, which begins on the 31st of May. Speaking to the media on Friday, Estwick wasn't interested in names or favourites heading into the series but employed that his team must focus on the opportunity ahead. "Cricket is never played on paper. It is played on grass, and being favourites count for nothing. We start favorites in Holland but [in our next series] we should not start favorites in Pakistan [so] people have got to look at it as the opportunity to represent the West Indies. Our standards should not be lowered to accommodate the opposition," he powerfully expressed. The upcoming fixture will be the first assignment for newly-appointed captain Nicholas Pooran who will have a relatively inexperienced team to work with. Estwick also touched on the importance of this series for the new skipper, "(this series) gives Pooran a chance to forge his identity with the senior players not around. But, at the end of the day, the decision-making falls with Pooran, and it is up to the players to execute their skills." Estwick also spoke on Shimron Hetmyer, who is currently having a tremendous season with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and has been a massive part of his team finishing in the top two in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he will not be present in the maroon due to the birth of his child. "If someone like Hetmyer is not playing, you will miss his talent. He is having an outstanding season for the Rajasthan Royals [but] has been asked not to be selected for this tour so we will have to get on without him. We do hope he will make himself available for future tours," Estwick stated. The 25-year-old who would have last represented the Windies at the T20 World Cup last year is seen as one of the future leaders of the WI batting lineup and will no doubt leave a massive void in the top order. One of the major challenges facing the West Indies will be foreign conditions, an area that Estwick sees as significant, "the major challenge will be adjusting to the conditions and pitches. We don't know what the conditions will be like in Holland. The key thing is focusing on us, making sure that we are properly prepared to get as much information while practicing out of the conditions in the three days before." The West Indies, who currently sit in tenth place in the Super League standings, will start the series as favorites against the bottom of the table Netherlands who have only managed two wins thus far. However, the Dutch will relish the opportunity to welcome a relatively young West Indies team to their backyard for battle.

#OTD in 2017 | Mumbai Indians became the first team to secure third IPL trophy

On this day, Mumbai Indians (MI) clinched a thrilling one-run victory over the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in the final of 2017 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), becoming the first team to secure three title victories under their belt. In the 2016 edition of the tournament, both MI and RPS had failed to qualify for the playoffs. But, they made a remarkable turnaround in the following edition to seal the top two spots in the points table. It was the ‘Maharashtra Derby’ at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 21, 2017, and all eyes were set on whether MI will be able to break the jinx against RPS. After winning the toss, MI opted to bat first. However, the early dismissals of Parthiv Patel (3) and Lendl Simmons (4) by Jaydev Unadkat hurt their chances of having a flourish in the powerplay overs. After that, Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma initiated recovery with some delightful shots. However, both the batters, Rayudu (12) and Sharma (24) were dismissed within a space of three overs. The Australian pair of Adam Zampa and Daniel Christian dismissed Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya, respectively, which put MI on the backfoot, leaving the team stuttering at 78/6 by the 14th over. However, Krunal Pandya delivered his career-best knock of 47* off 38 balls, with three fours and two sixes, helping MI post a respectable total of 129 on the board. In reply, talented RPS youngster, Rahul Tripathi, was dismissed early by Jasprit Bumrah. The team’s leading run-scorer, Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane, provided a stable start to the team and laid a platform to chase down a below-par total. However, Mitchell Johnson got the breakthrough for Mumbai in the form of Rahane (44) in the 12th over, which put a little bit of pressure on RPS. With 31 needed in 22 balls, Manoj Tiwary came at the crease. The duo of Tiwary-Smith tried to take the game deep, but left 11 runs for the final over, which was delivered by Johnson. On the first ball of the over, Tiwary hit a boundary towards the square leg region and enhanced the chances of RPS’s win. However, in the subsequent delivery, he got holed out to Pollard on long-on. In the third ball, Smith tried to play an inside-out shot towards deep cover, giving a catch to Rayudu. Then the next two balls saw a single by Washington Sundar, and Christain took a double. With three needed off the last delivery, Christian could not connect the ball well and was run-out in pursuit of completing a double. With this, MI lifted their third title. Krunal walked away with the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning contribution. This fixture marked the lowest total ever defended in an IPL final with the narrowest margin of one run.
