  • George Bailey Replaces Trevor Hohns As Chairman Of Australian Selection Committee

George Bailey replaces Trevor Hohns as chairman of Australian selection committee

Former Australia captain George Bailey has been named as the chairman of the national selection committee and he will replace the outgoing chairman Trevor Hohns, who has decided to quit his post. Hohns served the role of head selector in his two stints with the Australian senior men side. He had first taken up the chairmanship in 1995 and served until 2005 and later took up the role once again in 2016.

Cricket Australia has started its search for the third member of the selection panel who will accompany head coach Justin Langer and incoming chairman Bailey.

Bailey’s elevation to the chair of the selection committee highlights his increasing stature among the Cricket Australia ranks. Bailey was inducted into the committee shortly after he bid adieu to the game as a player.

Bailey’s leadership has always been rated highly by Cricket Australia as he was trusted to lead the Australia T2OI side before he made his international debut. He led Australia in his debut series against India in 2011-12 which was quite remarkable at that time and he later rose to the leadership of the ODI team in absence of Michael Clarke, who was grappling with injuries.

Bailey did not have a long career at the international stage and played 29 ODIs and 28 T20Is for Australia. However, his experience in the shortest format—T20s is immense with 213 appearances.

PCB blames BCCI for bringing Cricket into "disrepute", says will raise Kashmir Premier League issue

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its displeasure over reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the ICC members to withdraw their retired cricketers from the Kashmir Premier League (KPL). “The PCB considers that the BCCI has brought the game into disrepute by issuing warnings to multiple ICC Members to stop their retired cricketers from featuring in the Kashmir Premier League, further threatening they will not be allowed entry into India for cricket-related work,” PCB said in a statement. “Such conduct from the BCCI is completely unacceptable, against the preamble of the Spirit of Cricket and sets a dangerous precedent, which can neither be tolerated nor ignored,” it further added. The PCB has further stated that it will raise the matter at the “appropriate” ICC forum. “The PCB will raise this matter at the appropriate ICC forum and also reserves the right to take any further action that is available to us within the ICC charter,” PCb said. Earlier, former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs had alleged that the BCCI is trying to prevent him from playing the KPL. The tournament comprises six teams, Overseas Warriors, Muzaffarabad Tigers, Rawalakot Hawks, Bagh Stallions, Mirpur Royals and Kotli Lions. Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi, Shadab Khan, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal would be leading their respective sides. There are some prominent former players such as Matt Prior, Dilshan, Monty Panesar who are going to be a part of this competition. The teams will also have at least five players from the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) in the line up.
