One of the best all-rounders of his era and one of the finest leaders of the Blackcaps, Chris Cairns has suffered a devastating heart attack and is now fighting for his life in a hospital in Canberra, Australia. The former captain is said to have reached this condition after a failure in one of his medical emergency operations last week.
“It is understood Cairns suffered a major medical emergency - an aortic dissection - in Canberra last week. This is when a tear occurs in the inner layer of the body's main artery,” New Zealand Herald reported.
Fans and Cairns’ former teammates are praying for a speedy recovery of the legend who played 62 Tests, 215 One Day Internationals and two T20Is for New Zealand between 1989 and 2006.
The 51-year-old was alleged of match-fixing twice after his retirement, once by Lalit Modi, the former IPL boss and once by his former teammates Lou Vincent and Brendon McCullum and by 2015, he came out clean of both those allegations, but it broke him from within and as a result he was living in Canberra a life away from cricket with his family.
