Fionn Hand replaces Conor Olphert in Ireland's T20I squad

Uncapped bowling all-rounder Fionn Hand has been included in the Ireland squad for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand after Conor Olphert had to withdraw due to injury.

Olphert, who made his debut against India last month has sustained a knee injury and will begin his rehab immediately after an MRI scan confirmed the extent of the injury.

Cricket Ireland confirmed the development on the eve of the first T20I between Ireland and New Zealand.

Conor to start his rehab

Cricket Ireland's chair of selectors - Andrew White said it is unfortunate to lose Olphert due to an injury but he is hopeful of a quick return.

“It is obviously a great disappointment for Conor (Olphert) to sustain the injury at this time, just after impressing selectors during the inter-pro season and making his debut in the recent T20I series against India. Hopefully, with rehab commencing immediately we can get Conor back fit as soon as possible," said Andrew White, Chair of National Men’s Selectors.

White confirms that Fionn Hand has been added to the squad as a bowling cover.

“Fionn Hand comes in as bowling cover, after impressing during the inter-pros, and his batting will be an obvious bonus if he is selected to play.

Ireland will square off against New Zealand for the three-match T20I series starting July 18 (Monday).
