In a significant development, Melbourne Stars have appointed Adam Zampa their captain for the Big Bash League starting next week.

Zampa succeeds Glenn Maxwell, who is set to miss the entire season due to a freak leg injury. Meanwhile, veteran Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been named Zampa's deputy.

In his reaction, Zampa termed it an honour to lead the Stars and seemed determined to lead the side to glory this season. He also sounded excited to work alongside Stoinis for the team's success.

Here's what Zampa stated

"It's an honour to lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn's absence and I look forward to helping get the best out of this group,

"Our Stars journey won't be complete without a BBL title and we're throwing everything into this season to achieve that. With the help of Marcus as vice-captain, I can't wait to lead this group and we want to see as many of our fans at the MCG as possible on Friday 16th December at the MCG."

Zampa has been an efficient player in the BBL, claiming 98 wickets in 85 outings. The Australian is hailed as one of the best leg-spinners in the T20Is, having scalped 82 wickets in 72 appearances.
