As the Indian Premier League enters its last phase, players have started easing themselves into the next assignment in hand, the T20 World Cup. England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler feels that England has its chances of lifting the trophy this time as the team was knocked out in the final against West Indies in the last edition.
Two key players - Ben Stokes (citing mental health) and Jofra Archer (injured) - will not be available to play in the competition which will start on 17 October in UAE. However, Buttler thinks that despite their absence, England still is a good side.
Speaking at an event he said, “I think we’re certainly one of the favourites, I think we are a brilliant team.”
Talking about the absence of his key teammates, he said, “I know we’re going to be missing Ben and Jofra, two superstars, but I think you still look down that list and there are some real match-winners in our side and that’s really exciting.”
Buttler said that there are other strong teams like India and West Indies and that the experience that West Indies players have in this format is nice to have as a team. “But I think we’re a really good team and we’ll focus a lot on ourselves and play good cricket to the best of our ability. If we do that, we can go a long way,” he added.
