ENG vs SA | 1st ODI | Roy, Bairstow set new record with another century stand

Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow have formed one of the most lethal batting pairs at the top of the order in ODIs.

On Tuesday, the duo put on their 14th hundred-run stand for the first wicket in the first ODI against South Africa.

In this process, they set the record of having the most century partnerships for England in ODI Cricket.

The deadly duo's 102-run partnership for the first wicket helped them leap over Eoin Morgan and Joe Root, who have stitched thirteen-century stands together.

Roy and Bairstow reinforce their legacy as one of the greatest opening pairs

Roy and Bairstow's last 100-run stand in ODI cricket came about 15 months back.

The opening pair has played a key part in successfully implementing England's white-ball plans. The swashbuckling openers have always been on the counterattack against the opposition bowling attacks.

England top order strikes form after uneventful Indian series

Although England suffered a crushing 62-run defeat in the first ODI, there were positive signs for the hosts with their top order returning to form.

Roy, Bairstow and Root were among the runs, with the latter two slamming gorgeous fifties.

Root top-scored for England with 86 off 77 balls, being the lone warrior in a 334-run chase. However, Roy looked edgy in the middle, departing for 43 off 62 balls.
