ENG vs IND | 3rd T20I | Suryakumar Yadav plays innings of an ages, but India fail to capitalise

England managed to avoid a series whitewash by winning the third and final fixture of the T20I series against India on July 10 (Sunday) at Trent Bridge. After posting 215, they restricted the Men in Blue to 198 and won the game by 17 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav delivered a sensational knock of 117 off 55 balls but fell short of partners to get the team past the line.

Ahead of the game, India included Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Umran Malik, and Shreyas Iyer in their XI. On the other hand, England played Reece Topley and Phil Salt.

England won the toss, opted to change their strategy, and batted first at a belter of a surface.

Buttler (18) chopped on the ball to the stumps in the fourth over, and Avesh provided the first breakthrough for the Indian team.

In the sixth over, Harshal Patel dropped an easy catch of Malan, which was a disguised slower delivery. Soon, the southpaw punished the opposition by hitting a glorious six off the Backward square leg area to Jadeja.

Malik was again brought into the attack, and he responded well to pick the wicket of Jason Roy (27).

In the 10th over, Patel bowled his trademark slower ball, by rolling his fingers and knocked over Salt.

Then came Liam Livingstone, who paired up with Malan to garner 14 and 17 runs in the 13th and 14th over, respectively. In these overs, the players set the tone for the home team to post a substantial total on the board.

Livingstone powers England to a mammoth total

A couple of overs later, Livingstone made full use of Patel's loose balls and clubbed him for consecutive sixes in the Backward square-leg region. Finally, Bishnoi brought curtains to Malan's terrific innings of 77 off 39 balls by inducing an edge, which Pant caught.

Livingstone provided the final flourish and helped England post a competitive total on the board.

India had a horror start and lost the trio of Rohit Sharma (11), Rishabh Pant (1), and Virat Kohli (11) in quick succession.

Then, Surya and Iyer tried to resurrect the innings, with the former releasing the pressure by his boundaries towards the Fine-leg area.

Surya show almost steals the win for India

The 13th over witnessed Surya and Iyer hitting a six each off Livingstone, which kickstarted the momentum for the Indian team. Surya's inside-out loft over backward point off Gleeson was a significant highlight of his superb innings. The duo added 119 runs, before Iyer was dismissed for 28.

Surya reached his maiden century off 48 balls with a perfectly placed boundary towards the Third-man area of Willey.

However, Dinesh Karthik (6) and Ravindra Jadeja (7) could not hold their fort, as Suryakumar Yadav ran out of partners. He was eventually dismissed for 117, which included 14 fours and 6 sixes.

Topley was named as Player of the Match for his figures of 3/22, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar was adjudged as Player of the Series.

India and England will meet on July 12 to play the first fixture of the ODI series at Kennington Oval, London.
