Upcoming England’s tour of Pakistan can get into trouble with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) deciding to review security situations in Pakistan in the wake of the Taliban taking over the power in neighbouring Afghanistan, Daily Mail reported.
Both the Men’s and Women’s sides of England were to visit Pakistan for white-ball series in October and the ECB is reportedly concerned about the crisis unfolding in Afghanistan spilling over to Pakistan as well.
Notably, if the tour gets a go-ahead from the ECB and the UK government, it will be England’s first tour of Pakistan since 2006.
The ECB had assured the Pakistan Cricket Board of touring Pakistan for series after the men in green agreed to tour the UK last year for a series at the height of pandemic to help the ECB cut down on losses.
England are also slated to tour Pakistan for a full series comprising of Tests and white-ball series towards the end of the year and if the ECB shows scepticism over security situations in the country, that tour could also be postponed or rescheduled.
Teams have been wearied of travelling to the UK after a terrorist attack on the convoy of the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009 that had left many players injured and some of them were in critical situations.
