ECB appoints Matthew Mott as England's new white-ball coach

The England Cricket Board (ECB) have appointed Matthew Mott as England's new white-ball coach. Mott has signed a four-year contract in this regard and will join the England white-ball team ahead of their ODI series against the Netherlands next month.

The supreme governing body of England cricket had conducted an interview round to assess the candidates who had applied for the job. As a result, the four members of the selection panel, viz. the CEO Tom Harrison, Managing Director Rob Key, Strategic advisor Andrew Strauss and Performance director Mo Bobat determined Matthew Mott to be the most suitable candidate for the aforementioned role on mutual agreement.

Mott, 48, was associated with the Australian women's team from 2015 to 2022. During Mott's tenure, the Australian women's team clinched two consecutive T20 World Cups and won the 2022 women's ODI World Cup as well. Mott, who belongs to a small Australian town Charleville, also had tremendous success during his coaching stints with New South Wales and Glamorgan.

The Managing Director Rob Key said that they are lucky to have Matthew Mott as the coach because he possesses a plethora of experience in the coaching field, not only in international cricket but also in franchise cricket.

The former England international also stressed that he is confident of a formidable association between Mott and England's limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan, ensuring astounding success for the team in the near future. Continuing, Key said that Mott will play an instrumental role in shaping up the skills of the English coaches by providing them with his valuable insights during his tenure.

"It is a real privilege to be able to announce Mathew Mott as the Head Coach of our men's white-ball team. We are lucky to be able to appoint a Head Coach that has not only been involved in international cricket for the last few years, but he has also worked in franchise cricket around the world.

I'm confident that in Eoin Morgan and Matthew Mott, we have a formidable partnership that can push for more trophies in the coming years," Key said. "Furthermore, Matthew will also help us invest in English coaches, getting them as much experience as possible over the next few years," he further added.

In his reaction, Matthew Mott said that he has always admired Eoin Morgan and Rob Key as brilliant cricketing minds, and it's a matter of delight for him to get this job.

"I am delighted to accept the opportunity to take this white-ball role with England. When this role became available, I was attracted by chance to work with such an established and successful team under the astute leadership of Eoin Morgan and now Rob Key, whom I have always admired as an excellent cricket mind," Mott said.

"The idea of the split roles and the chance to work alongside Brendon McCullum in his red-ball role is an opportunity that I am incredibly enthusiastic about and certainly provides the right balance for my family as we embark on this exciting journey," he further added.
