While there are words speculating around who will replace Virat Kohli as the captain of the T20I side with him announcing to step down after the T20 World Cup, Kohli himself has dropped a subtle hint of who could be the man at the charge of India’s T20I future.
Responding to the question over his career as the captain of the T20 side, Kohli said that the opportunity was an “absolutely honored” for him while also saying that Rohit Sharma, his long-term deputy has been involved in leadership process for a long time.
“I was given the opportunity and I tried to do my best. But it's also time to create some space and move forward. I've been immensely proud of how the team has played. Now I think it's time for the next lot to take this team forward. Obviously, Rohit is here and he's overlooking things for a while now,” Kohli said.
It should be noted that Rohit Sharma has always been the favored man to replace at the helm of Team India, at least in the shortest format for his rich legacy as the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
Virat Kohli may also lose the ODI captaincy after the world cup as per some reports but nothing of that sort has been indicated yet either by the BCCI or Kohli himself.
