Deepti Sharma and her quest of becoming greatest Indian all-rounder

Making her national debut at 17, a member of India's best ODI and T20 World Cup campaigns, and ranking among the top white-ball all-rounders in the world, young Deepti Sharma has seen it all during her cricketing journey.

Having compiled close to 2,500 international runs, all while nearing 150 wickets with her right-arm off-spin bowling, the dashing Bengal cricketer is on a quest to become one of the greats of the women's game.

So far, the 24-year-old has represented her national side in 74 ODIs, 59 T20Is and two Test matches. The ICC acknowledges her as the third-best T20I all-rounder in the world. Sharma also features in the top 10 list for T20I bowlers at number five.

Furthermore, her all-around brilliance means that she is also the 7th best all-rounder in the world as per active ICC rankings.

One of the highlights of her batting career came during a 2017 Quadrangular Series game against Ireland. In the match, Sharma clubbed 188 from just 160 balls and formed a world-record 320-run opening stand with Punam Raut. It marked her first and only international ton, and the knock remains the third highest individual score in Women's ODI cricket.

Deepti Sharma was one of the leading architects for India in their runners-up campaign during the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup. The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer picked up 216 runs from nine games and scalped 12 wickets to mark one of the finest all-round displays in recent memory.

Sharma's contribution with both bat and ball also proved pivotal in Indian women's entertaining run at the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Team India, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, seemed like tournament favourites for extensive periods until the hosts humbled them in the title clash.

The dynamic all-rounder continues to make headlines with her performances. In the opening T20I game of India's ongoing tour of Sri Lanka, young Sharma showed her brilliance in the death overs and then returned to haunt the hosts' top-order.

In the match, the 'Women in Blue' were reduced to 81-5 at one stage after the 14-over mark. The left-handed striker launched a boundary-laden cameo on her way to charting 17* off just eight balls. Her knock lifted the Indian total to 138-6.

In the second half of the game, Sharma removed one of the two Sri Lankan openers and conceded just nine runs in her three-over spell as India emerged victorious by a margin of 34 runs.

She will feature in the remainder of India's white-ball games against Sri Lanka. Leading the T20I segment of the tour 1-0, the Indian Women's team will play three ODIs at Pallekele between July 1 and July 7.

ENG vs NZ | Daryl Mitchell becomes the first Kiwi batter to score three successive Test tons against England

Daryl Mitchell’s performance in the ongoing Test series against England has been phenomenal. The Kiwi batter has absolutely thwarted the English bowling attack throughout the series. In this process, he has reached one milestone after another. The 31-year-old batter registered his third successive ton against England in the final Test, hence setting a new record. The Rajasthan Royals batter became the first New Zealand batter to register three successive centuries against England. Adding to his credit, all three tons have come in the enemy backyard. Walking into bat with the score reading 83 runs for the loss of four wickets, it took a Herculean effort from the Canterbury cricketer to bail out the visitors again in the third Test. Mitchell lasted for over 80 overs, scoring 109 runs off 228 balls to guide his side to a respectable first innings total. On Day 1 of the final Test, Mitchell also became the first Kiwi batter in 73 years to score 400 runs in a Test series against England. He has amassed 482 runs in five innings at a stupendous average of 120.50, way clear of Joe Root, who comes in second with 305 runs. Before Mitchell’s feat, only two players had scored three centuries in a three-match Test series in England. Ken Barrington achieved the feat in 1967 against Pakistan, whereas Graham Gooch achieved the same in 1990 against India. Mitchell’s campaign started with a disappointing knock of just 13 runs in the first innings of the opening Test. However, he put on a show in the second innings, with a spectacular knock of 108 runs. The 31-year-old batter just fell ten runs short off a well-deserved double century in the second Test. The reigning World Test Champions have not been at their best on this tour, yet Mitchell has certainly saved the day for the visitors on several occasions.
