Aus vs Ind: Australian cricketers to stand in barefoot circle in ant-racism drive

Australian Cricket team will stand barefoot in a circle at the start of the Australian summer in order to recognise the anti-racism protest across the world and acknowledge the indigenous people, pace bowler Pat Cummins said. The drive will begin with the start of the ODI series against India on November 27. Cummins’ statement comes as a word from the leadership group of the Australian team as he has been promoted to Vice-captain role in the team. He also assured that all the players in the setup would work well to learn the history of Australia and its people. “In Australia, we think the most, I guess, marginalised group is the first nations people and the indigenous peoples. And we think the barefoot circle's a great way to celebrate them. Some people might want to take the knee, some people might want to show it in different ways and absolutely we're all for that. But we've kind of come together as a team and think this is the best way we can demonstrate anti-racism as well as celebrating the indigenous culture here," Cummins said in a video-conference with reporters. The call of standing barefoot is a departure from the earlier stance when the Australian captain in ODIs and T20s, Aaron Finch had refused to take the knee against racism in Cricket which was promoted into the game by the English and West Indian players in their Test series started in July.

Ajit Agrkar, Maninder Singh top contender for chief selector's post

Former Indian all-rounder Ajit Agarkar is set to be the frontrunner to lead the 5-member panel of the selection committee of the Indian cricket team after he applied for a post of national selector. Agarkar had missed out earlier this year when vacancies opened up in the panel after the then chairman MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda had completed their four-year-term in the selection panel reportedly due to a zonal policy which the BCCI had discarded on paper. Notably, there are four more contenders for posts in selection committee after former Indian left-arm spinner Maninder Singh, Chetan Sharma, Ranadeb Bose and Shiv Sunder Das have also thrown in their hats in the ring to be the part of a committee that has a role in shaping the future of Indian cricket and finding and backing new talents in the game. There are three vacancies available in the selection committee which have been created by the departure of Sarandeep Singh, Jatin Paranjpe and Devang Gandhi after completion of their terms. The selection committee is currently headed by Sunil Joshi and his position as the chairman of the committee is on the brink as if either of Agarkar or Maninder will find their ways into the selection committee, one of them will lead the panel based on their longer Test career than that of Sunil Joshi. Maninder Singh has played 33 Test matches which are highest among all the contenders followed by Ajit Agarkar who has played 26 Test matches while both Chetan Sharma and Shiv Sunder Das have played 23 matches each in the longest format of the game. Sunil Joshi-led committee had picked the Indian squads for the tour of Australia and the next assignment is a bit far away as there is no certainty on the itinerary of the England tour of India and the BCCI has the time in its hands to decide how it wants to take forward the induction of newcomers into the selection committee.

Big Bash League 2020 makes three changes to 'blow up' regular T20 game

The 10th edition of the Big Bash League is set to be completely overhauled with the induction of three massive changes that will alter the flow of a game and bring accountability to the decision making processes of captains and coaches. All these changes are designed to come in effect after the 10th over of a T20 innings to boost the excitement quotient of a game. Here are the three changes to be made in Big Bash League this year. Power Surge In the ‘power Surge’ rule, the batting side will get the option of asking the bowling side to keep only two fielders outside the 30-yard circle. Batting sides can call this after the completion of 10th over and the captain of the yielding side will have to keep field setting like of Power Play overs. As a result of this ‘Power Surge’ amendment, duration of power play overs at the start of the innings which was till the sixth over of the inning has been reduced to only first four overs of the innings. X-Factor Player According to the new provision, players listed as the 12th or 13th player on a team sheet will be allowed to come in the game after 10th over. Those incoming players will be able to replace batsman who would not have batted till that point or bowlers who would have bowled no more than one over in that particular innings. Bash Boost According to the provision under ‘Bash Boost’ change, the team batting second in a T20 game will be awarded a bonus point if they lead their opponent at the 10-over mark while chasing and in case they will trail in their chasing efforts, their opponent will get the same bonus points they were supposed to get. Additionally, all teams will get 3 points for every win this season instead of 2 points they have been getting in all the previous seasons. Discussing the potential impact of these new changes, Cricket Australia’s ‘Player acquisition and cricket consultant' for the BBL said that the new changes will change momentum and pattern of T20 game and that will put pressure on captains and coaches to bring up new and better ideas quickly. “It's going to put pressure on leaders and coaches. Having been involved in over 300 T20 matches in the women's and men's games, T20s have a pattern, and this will blow that pattern up,” Woodhill said.

Nathan Lyon wary of Pujara-Rahane threat amidst Kohli’s absence

Australian spin talisman Nathan Lyon is disappointed that Indian captain Virat Kohli wouldn’t be a part of all four matches of the most anticipated Test series between the two nations. But at the same time, he is aware of the challenge that the Indian team can still put up with the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara in the ranks. “It’s disappointing for the series. You want to play against the best players in the world,” Lyon told Fox Sports citing Kohli’s paternity leave which will see him leaving the Test series after the first of the four Tests in Adelaide for the birth of his and wife Anushka Sharma’s first child. “I believe he is the best player in the world along with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. It’s disappointing but they have still got superstars,” Lyon added. With 390 wickets in 96 Tests, Lyon is currently the highest wicket-taker among active spinners in the World. He believes that even after Kohli’s absence for the better part of the series, India are not to be taken lightly at all. “Look at Pujara, Rahane, and they have also got a couple of young guys coming in. It’s still going to be a massive challenge for us. Just because Virat’s not here doesn’t mean we get to hold the trophy up. We’ve still got a lot of work to do, a lot of homework to do,” he said. He has all the reasons to be buckling up and preparing hard as it was actually Cheteshwar Pujara who did most of the damage the last time India came touring for the four-match Test series and went away with a historic 2-1 victory. In that series, the 32-year-old Pujara scored 521 runs with three centuries and was the highest run-getter.
