The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has accepted a request made by the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) to alter the dates of the Caribbean Premier league so that the tournament doesn’t overlap with the dates of the Indian Premier league.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah had a word with his CWI counterparts about changing the CPL schedule. "CWI is doing our best to help facilitate a smooth transition from CPL to IPL, without a conflicting overlap," Ricky Skerritt, the president of CWI, told Cricbuzz.
The CPL is now likely to start on August 25 and will conclude by September 15. It was originally scheduled between August 28-September 19. The West Indies players will have a transfer from the national side’s bubble to the respective franchise bubbles. The players who are a part of 'The Hundred' tournament which is scheduled to end on August 21 will also have the bubble-to-bubble transfer facility.
Earlier, the IPL was suspended on May 4 after there was a rise in Covid-19 cases within the franchise teams. KKR’s Varun Chakrvarthy and Sandeep Warrior, DC’s Amit Mishra, SRH’s Wriddhiman Saha and CSK’s batting coach Mike Hussey and bowling coach L.Balaji had tested positive for the disease. The cash-rich league has now been moved to the UAE but the fixtures are yet to be announced.
