England on the back of their all-around complete performance annihilated Sri Lanka by five wickets to kick start their Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 campaign on a winning note.
Capsey's blitzkrieg helped England overwhelmed the chase
Chasing the modest total of 106, England reached home in 17.1 overs, courtesy of Alice Capsey's 45-ball 44 run knock and breezy cameos from Sophia Dunkley, Natalie Sciver and Maia Bouchier.
A 107-run target looked like a cakewalk for mighty England but the chase began with a couple of early hiccups.
The experienced English campaigner and opener Danielle Nicole Wyatt (5) was the first to go down for the hosts. She was soon joined by Sophia Dunkley in the dugout as Ranasinghe struck in her next over again to clean Dunkley up for 17.
However, two top-order batters falling inside the powerplay didn't bother the hosts much as the young Alice Capsey stood firm and continued to defy the Lankan bowlers.
Skipper Natalie Sciver (17) and Maia Bouchier (21*) also played quick knocks down the order to help England chase down the total with 17 balls to spare.
For Sri Lanka, Inoka Ranaweera was the pick of the bowlers as she grabbed three wickets in her spell of four overs. Ranasinghe also got two wickets to her name.
