In a remarkable achievement, Afghanistan's spin maestro Rashid Khan became the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket last evening. The wily wrist spinner attained the landmark during MI Cape Town's qualifier game against Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025. 

On Tuesday, Rashid Khan-led MI Cape Town swatted aside Paarl Royals by 39 runs, qualifying for the final of this year's SA20 tournament. Batting first, MICT posted a mammoth total of 199 runs, thanks to valuable contributions from Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, Dewald Brevis and Delano Potgieter. In response, the Royals lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually falling short of the target by 39 runs. 

Rashid Khan Goes Past Dwayne Bravo To Become Highest Wicket-taker in T20s

MICT captain Rashid Khan was impressive with the ball, as he bagged two crucial wickets during the run-chase. After dismissing Dunith Wellalage, Rashid got rid of Dinesh Karthik, finishing his spell with figures of two for 33 in four overs. 

As soon as Rashid removed Wellalage, he dethroned Dwayne Bravo, becoming the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket. The Afghan spinner had same number of victims as Bravo (631) before this encounter. So, currently, he claims the top position on the list with 633 wickets under his belt.

As shown in the above table, Rashid and Bravo are the top two highest wicket-takers, while Sunil Narine occupies the third position with 574 scalps. Imran Tahir and Bangladesh's legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan are placed fourth and fifth, respectively. 

Talking about MI Cape Town, the in-form outfit reached the final of the competition with a remarkable win over the Royals, who will face the winner of today's eliminator between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings in the second qualifier.
