Cricket Scotland announces squad for home tri-series, Richie Berrington set to lead

Cricket Scotland will host Namibia and Nepal in a tri-nation series in July. The series will serve as the 14th round of the ongoing 2019-2023 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tournament.

A total of six ODIs will be played across Glasgow's Titwood and Ayr's Cambusdoon New Ground between July 10 and July 17.

Just a few weeks before the competition's commencement, Cricket Scotland announced their 14-man squad, with Richie Berrington set to become their new captain. Berrington will be replacing long-time Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer. Additionally, wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Cross was announced as the new vice-captain of the team.

Ahead of his first assignment as skipper, Berrington said: "I feel incredibly honoured and privileged to lead this team and represent my country. Having come through the Scottish system from a young age, I'm very proud to take on the role of men's captain.

"We have an extremely skilful and talented group of players and a lot of experience in our squad but as a group we are always looking to find ways to improve and I'm looking forward to seeing the team continually move forward", he added.

Scotland men's coach Shane Burger has also expressed his delight on working with a new captain and vice-captain of the cricket team.

While addressing the media, Burger pinned his confidence on Richie Berrington by saying that the cricketer will lead the side with "distinction" and is the "right person for the job".

Here is a look at the entire 14-man Scotland squad for the upcoming tri-series against Nepal and Namibia:
