To the delight of cricket fanatics around the globe, the tenth edition of the Caribbean Premier League commences on September 1.

Barbados Royals have appointed David Miller as their new skipper going into the tournament. Notably, Miller possesses minimal captaincy experience, having never captained South Africa. However, Barbados Royals' spearhead Obed McCoy has backed the swashbuckling southpaw to pass his captaincy test with flying colours in the mega-event.

McCoy stressed that Miller's scintillating batting form would help him lead from the front. Addressing Miller as the perfect candidate for leadership, the left-arm pacer expected him to take the Royals to new heights with his experience.

"It is something that is relatively new to him, but seeing him, I think it’s a job that fits him,"

"He’s a really experienced player and I’m sure he’s always learning, which applies to captaincy as well. He’s been in exceptional form off late and we are hoping he can lead us from the front with passion and help the team in doing the best.”

McCoy, who represented St Lucia Kings last season, will be donning the Royals' jersey this year. However, he admitted to being familiar with many players in the setup, having played for the parent franchise Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

"It’s obviously a new franchise for me but I’ve settled well into the team because there are a lot of familiar faces in our camp. It’s like a continuation from the IPL itself, and I am glad that the franchise has again put their faith in me."

Barbados Royals will lock horns with the defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the third match of the tournament on September 2.
