Clare Connor appointed as MCC's first female President

Former England captain Clare Connor made history when she became the first female President of the MCC. Connor’s name was nominated for the post in 2020 but the Covid-19 situation across the world delayed her appointment.

Connor who is also Director of Women's Cricket at the ECB thanked MCC and Kumar Sangakkara.

"I am truly honoured to be MCC President," Connor said, "and would like to thank Kumar Sangakkara for putting his faith in me to deliver this enormously important role, for the good of the sport I have loved all my life,” she added.

"I will try to bring my range of experiences from the dressing room and the boardroom to support, influence and work alongside the club's leadership and committees over the next 12 months. I am really looking forward to being part of the MCC team,” she further said.

She first played for England in 1995 at the age of 19 and was handed over the captaincy in the year 2000. She led England to their first Ashes win in 42 years in 2005. The all-rounder was later made an Honorary Life Member of MCC in 2009.

She has also chaired the ICC Women's Cricket Committee since 2011 and was the director on the board of Sussex Cricket and Sport England.
